’27 OL/DL has the tools, size, and intelligence to thrive

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts...
Homer, Illiad, 800 BC

Ethan Bertram is a ’27 lineman with epic, Trojan War-like dimensions. Built like a mighty warrior of old, Bertram is 6’3,” weighs a well put together 306-pounds, and sports a 4.0 GPA. His power numbers are nothing at which to scoff. Bertram reports a bench press of 285, a power clean of 215, a squat of 365, and, get this, he is a KHSAA Academic, 1st Team All-Stater. This kid has the tools and work ethic to develop himself into a Power Four guy along one of the interior OL slots. Who knows? He may not be done heightening or lengthening.

Glasgow, KY: Hómēros, or “Homer,” as we know him, is an ancient Greek poet credit with authoring The Illiad and The Odyssey. These two episodic poems are foundational works of Ancient Greek literature.

The Illiad centers around a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior, Achilles, during the last year of the Trojan War. The Trojan War was a conflict in the 12th or 13th century BC waged by the Greeks against the city of Troy after Paris took Helen (of Troy) from her husband, Menelaus, King of Sparta. Helen would become known throughout history as “…the face that launched a thousand ships.”

All high schools utilizing Trojan as a symbol or mascot are referencing Homer’s epic poem, The Illiad; particularly how it depicted the Trojan War. Did you know that?

Ethan Bertram is built like one of those mighty “heroes” of Ancient Greek mythology. Bertram is a OL/DL guy who is about to enter the summer between his sophomore and junior years. He is a ’27 guy who is 6’3,” 306-pounds.

Bertram is 6’3,” 306 with a 285-bench press an a 365-pound back squat

Numbers reported on @BertramEthan66

Bertram is way more than just good sized. Bertram bench presses 285, power cleans 215, and squats 365. On top of all that, Bertram is a KHSAA Academic, 1st team All State selection, carrying a 4.0 GPA.

Barren County is coming off an incredible year. The 6A, second district, Trojans were 10-3 in ’24. Its rising junior will be looking for more ways to utilize his considerable skill set on behalf of his team and the team’s goal toward achieving championship level football.

Bertram has done the most important part this offseason. Bertram has “put in the work.”

As Bertram comes into his junior year, the first team All-State Academician should listen to the commentary of Pat Baker, author of “The Silence of the Girls.”

Pat Baker

Baker writes, alluding to Homer’s epic, The Illiad, the following:

“We’re going to survive–our songs, our stories. They’ll never be able to forget us. Decades after the last man who fought at Troy is dead, their sons will remember the songs their Trojan mothers sang to them. We’ll be in their dreams–and in their worst nightmares too.”

There is a thought to take into battle. Go get ’em, Bertram, your friends at KPGFootball will be rooting for you and ready to record your feats for posterity.
