Hood and company promise to keep LCA trending upwardly

There is a very scary proposition tied to LCA’s 2A football championship this past season. What is the proposition? How about the fact the team is a young squad with a ton of talent returning for next season. Next year, LCA will be the hunted and not the hunters. There will be an adjustment required to fill the new role. Regardless, eCampus.com would like to congratulate and revisit the six (6) players who were deemed to have rendered all-state performances for the Eagles in 2025, here on the eve of 2026.

HB Lyon, Scouting Director, “KPGFootball”

eCampus.com was built on a simple idea: make textbooks affordable, convenient, and accessible for every student. Founded in 1999 in Lexington, KY and backed by visionary investors like Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, the company has grown into a premier online textbook retailer for high school and college students nationwide.

Their mission has always been supporting student success both on and off the field through affordable access to the course materials they need. eCampus.com is excited to invest in our student-athletes through Kentucky Prep Gridiron (KPGFootball) which was founded to promote and assist young high school football players get promoted to “next level,” college football opportunities.

That is why eCampus.com sponsors the KPGFootball, Big Man on the eCampus series. This week’s Big Man on the eCampus is Daven Hood (again). One reason we are featuring him here is Hood could have made the Small School All-State Football Team and just missed.

Perhaps he should have made it. No all-state team is flawless.

Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) perennially competes for KHSAA championships at its level of play. Players developing into stars, like Daven Hood, has a ton to do with the program’s success.

Small School All-State Reveal Show

Lexington, KY: There is no secret how LCA scaled to the top of the mountain top in 2025. The roster was laden with talent sufficient to keep the Eagles in the race this season and, seemingly, for several years to come.

There is work to done before we label LCA one of Kentucky’s new championship dynasties. The talent is there, the coaching is there, the facilities are there, the “want to” doesn’t appear lacking either.

Daven Hood, a guy we have before featured, had quite a year. Hood, a ’27 multi-sport athlete who has played three varsity sports over his high school career, had 94-carries for 578-yards (6.15-yards per) and 13-TDs. Caught 13-balls for 118-yards (a tad over nine yards a reception), scored 78-points (2nd on the team in scoring), and that was just on offense.

Defensively, Hood tallied 47-tackles, 1-TFL, and an INT. He has done the lot while toting a 4.21-GPA and registering a 26 on his ACT. Basically, he can gain admission pretty much anywhere he should choose.

Hood came up, big time, when it most mattered too. In the championship game, a 33-28 victory over Owensboro Catholic, sophomore quarterback, Nash Whelan, ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more. Hood churned out 110 yards rushing and a score at TD of his own.

Defensively, Hood and the Gang locked down one of the state’s more dynamic offenses, forcing four punts and three turnovers on the night. The Eagles held off a late charge to claim the 2025 2A State Championship at Kroger Field.

There is coming up big in football and then there is making the big performance when it is most needed, when it counts the most. Hood was not just clutch for the ball club in ’25 but he delivered one of his best performances when it was most needed.

If you are wondering, that is how one wins award like this one. Just in case you were pondering it…

Join us next week as we honor another eCampus.com, Big Man on the eCampus, furthering off our offseason coverage. Until then, from any classroom to every field, eCampus.com delivers an easy, fast, and affordable way to order textbooks for students everywhere.
