We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Deonatae Edison is simply among the best multi-phase football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at any level and a tremendous prospect in more phases than just on defense. Edison broke onto the scene over his junior year and registered a team leading among of TFLs and QB-sacks. New head coach, Curtis Higgins (that felt funny calling him “New”) needs Edison to continue being among the commonwealth’s more talented three phase threats. Edison has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Edison is only going to improve over his senior season, particularly on defense where he should get many more opportunities. Edison is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

Walker Bell is a ’29 guy who can play WR/QB/DB and who has a varied and dramatic athletic skill set. Bell played in six (6) games a year ago and performed admirably in a limited setting. Bell is very likely to round into an all-state performer either split out wide or in the Laker backfield on one or both sides of the scrimmage line. Players like Bell are part of the upgrade and development of talent undertaken by Coach Coby Lewis who is in his second year of an incredibly impressive rebuild. Walker Bell is a 5’9,” 155-pound, multi-phase, multi-sport performer who runs a 4.8-second 40-yard dash and is strong, powerful, explosive, and “twitchy.” Bell also plays soccer so he possess quick and nimble feet. Bell both was and still is a superlatively good athlete who excels at FB in addition to soccer. Matthew Briedwell is simply among the best QB’ing football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at his level of play and particularly on the western end of KY. Briedwell came on our radar with his play last season in Coach Coby Lewis’s inaugural season at the helm of the Lakers’s ship. Since then, Briedwell has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Briedwell is only going to improve over his senior season, particularly on offense where he should get many more throwing and running opportunities. Trigg County, as of the date of our writing this piece, was still in the middle of a coaching search. Its former head coach, Chris Ezell, had stepped down as the head man to take a slot on the new Christian County Tiger staff as a strength and conditioning coach and DEs specialist. We are sure Ezell is excited to be getting a ton of talent on his new, 6A, “active” roster. The cupboard at the old school, Trigg County, won’t be completely barren. Brody Calhoun is among the better linebackers in western KY football. Trigg, with the help of this week’s feature just might be a dangerous team entering the ’26 season. There will be those who will tell you the newly consolidated “Tigers,” from Christian County High, will go as far next season as players like Tremayne Clay can lead them. Clay is a talent and one of five (5) former Hoptown Tigers to make the Big Ass Fans’s Large School, All-State Football Team. The newly consolidated school shouldn’t hurt for talent and the Tigers are amassing an array of coaching talent to “put the team through its paces” in its upcoming inaugural season. Regardless, Clay will be critical. Good thing he is also extremely talented.
