How was Ray Graham able to step in and turn around a Thoroughbred football program in Cynthiana, Kentucky (Harrison County) which had won a total of 9 games from 2014-2017? Well, it certainly didn’t hurt to have a Marshall on hand. Coach Graham had previously coached two other Marshalls, one named Bubba, the other named Cliff. Now he’s coaching Connor. It would appear Connor is on the cusp of a big, big year.
Call us sentimental but we decided to put up a little article hoping to describe for you, the reader, just a little about what the game of football means to us here at KPGFootball. It’s August 1 and it is time to buckle the chin-strap and get down to business. This is the time where men are made and heroes are found. Good luck to every kid from every town across Kentucky who gets to wear that game-day jersey down the hall.

Today, all over Kentucky, is the first day teams have been able to wear what the KHSAA calls “shells.” What gear constitutes “shells” is set out in Bylaw 23 and its subparts. “Shells” are defined as shorts, helmet, and shoulder pads. Judging from some social media postings we have viewed in advance of today, some of you were confused as to exactly when you could add shoulder pads to your practice equipment. We watched one middle school video of a member school practicing in “shells” last week. Anyway, the donning of shoulder pads means different things to different players so we sent out a query to some of Kentucky’s best high school players to see what, if anything, it signified to them. This article contains what we received back from some of the players asked.

No matter what some key board assassin or self-described football “expert” may write (us included), real football players know each other when they see each other. That is why peer recognition will always mean more to a player than what some pundit may either write or think. As the old joke goes, “One can’t fool a nit-nat.” Everyone is on the Crowdus train and, truthfully, if he played in a locale more known for producing football talent, he would likely be a five-star and the top WR in the nation, where he may end up before it is all said and done anyway. We love to scour the statistics and then glorify the skill players who compile them. Many of these skill players become our heroes, our kids’ heroes. We forget that Johnny QB or Johnny RB didn’t just run out on the field and run over the defensive 11, single-handily. Someone or 5 particular “someones” have to bust their butts for recognition from only the most knowledgeable few. We love offensive linemen at KPGFootball and Logan Smith is one of our favorites Kentucky-wide. Corbin is very good offensively and the Logan Smiths along its OL is why. Enjoy the article. HB
We have heard thunder only happens when it is raining. We have also heard where there is thunder there is also lightening. Well, opponents of Caudill Middle School have been experiencing some terrible weather over the past three seasons. The two backs we have featured today, Kenyatta “Thunder” Hodge and Brady “Lightening” Hensley, are the most dynamic and productive backfield in Kentucky’s Class of 2024. Enjoy the article. HB.
