On the eve of opening the season, we decided to go back and award a former recipient of this same award. Andrew Munster was first awarded the Revolutionary Player of the Week by Independence Bank on January 26, 2019. With his recent selection to the “Herald-Leader Hundred” we thought now would be a good time to give the distinction to him a second time. If I pick McCracken to win, the Mayfield Cardinal legion will go absolutely berserk. Those guys would be upset if the College Game Day crew picked Alabama over Mayfield. That is one of the main reasons Mayfield is Mayfield. However, McCracken went on the road and beat the Cardinals by double-digits in 2019. Will the Mustangs do it again in 2020? Here is a game which will be tougher than it looks on paper. Everyone gets all over the top about the loss of London Stephney at QB for Bell. His loss is huge, he was a fine player. However, what is left in Bell County, post-Stepney, is still elite talent. Johnson Central suffered some losses to graduation too. This game will be a tight one. Who’s going to win? These same teams played early in 2019 in Hyden, Kentucky. Clay County won that game by 17-points. Fans can’t act like high school teams are the same year in and year out. There is something called “graduation” which plays a big part in any high school team’s fortunes. Who will win this year’s game to be played the 11th in Manchester? There is no better time than the present to anoint another Independence Bank player of the week. This week’s recipient is a player who appeared in 10 or so games in 2019 as a sophomore on a roster which was heavily laden with senior talent. Chris Hill has the frame, hostility, and athletic ability to really come to the fore in 2020 and we look for him to do just that. Hill’s efforts will really make the Maroons’ offense roll this coming season and he figures to be in the rotation on the defense front too.
