’29 two way player poised for ‘Big Things’

There aren’t too many freshmen finding the varsity field around the KHSAA. If you count freshmen at prestigious private schools with deeply talented rosters on teams routinely and annually competing for championships coming off a title last season, the number is even less. Allen Cox is such a ’29 prospect. There was a famous football coach in western Kentucky named Allan Cox. We suppose the two could be related, though we know of no such kinship. Point is, this other “Allen,” if you will is ready, willing, and appears able to make his own name and not rely on the fame of any other “Cox” who may have come on before him.

eCampus.com was built on a simple idea: make textbooks affordable, convenient, and accessible for every student. Founded in 1999 in Lexington, KY and backed by visionary investors like Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, the company has grown into a premier online textbook retailer for high school and college students nationwide.

Their mission has always been supporting student success both on and off the field through affordable access to the course materials they need. eCampus.com is excited to invest in our student-athletes through Kentucky Prep Gridiron (KPGFootball) which was founded to promote and assist young high school football players get promoted to “next level,” college football opportunities.

That is why eCampus.com sponsors the KPGFootball, Big Man on the eCampus series. This week’s Big Man on the eCampus is Allen Cox. One reason we are featuring him here is Cox is among the very best ’29s on the roster and almost sure to be a big star for the Eagles going forward.

Cox didn’t make our small school all-state team, but that has more to do with his being a freshman on a roster so stacked and talented it won a 2A title this past season. Cox will almost assuredly challenge to make future teams provided he continues to work, improve, and develop along his same arc or continuum.

We have no doubt additional Eagles should have made our team this year. No all-state team is flawless.

Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) perennially competes for KHSAA championships at its level of play. Players developing into stars, like Cox, have a ton to do with the program’s progression.

Small School All-State Reveal Show

Lexington, KY: Allen Cox shares a name with one of the KHSAA’s all-time greatest coaches. We don’t know the two to be related. We don’t know that they aren’t neither.

The surname “Cox” is synonymous across Kentucky with competing and winning. This particular strand of Cox appears to be fulfilling that billing quite well.

Coach Cox was a feature in our “Slow Motion Series” last summer. Here is a link to that article.

We would point out the two spelled their given names differently. Our ’29 prospect spells his given name “Allen.” Coach Cox spelled his given name “Allan.”

Coach Cox’s nickname in college, playing for UT Martin, was “Buckwheat.” We mention this in case our present star, “Allen,” is in need of a nickname.

Clearly Cox men can ball. Cox, the one playing for LCA, had quit a year particularly for a freshman.

Cox registered 20-tackles on defense, was the scout team offensive player of the week the week of the championship game with Owensboro Catholic, and registered a hand full of rushing attempts to go along with five (5) receptions, one of which scored a TD. On a roster which finished 12-3, won the KHSAA 2A title, and pretty much played all comers, that is right fine work for any freshman.

Cox saw the field in all 15-varsity games a year ago. Cox figures to continue to see a ton of snaps from this point until he walks across the graduation stage in 2029.

This will be a huge offseason for Cox and his fellow freshmen. There is a ton of physical development which naturally occurs between a young man’s freshman and sophomore years. There will be a ton of camps, combines, and sevens throws providing Cox and classmates opportunity to be both seen and recruited for next level opportunity.

For now, there is a regular job to prepare for and win. For now there are other championships to win. If this cat is anything like the other “Allan Cox,” he will certainly be right in the thick of things every year he continues to compete.
