Bank of Cadiz

’27 QB/FS could be ‘next level’ at either position

Aiden Baxter got run in 10 of the team’s 15-games (14-1, State Runners-up in 2A) over the course of the 2025 season. What makes that particularly noteworthy is not his four (4) registered tackles, his fine play on special team’s units, nor his 5’10,” 140-pound, yet underdeveloped frame. What makes it noteworthy is his being a freshman, a multiport, varsity athlete (also on the Track & Field team), and his being a championship caliber welder (See below picture). We like performers with varied skill sets. This cat has some varied skill sets which translate even off the athletic fields. Look for this kid to explode onto the play rotation this coming Fall for the Murray High Tigers. Remember from where you first heard this!

The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company, based in Cadiz, Kentucky, was founded August 7, 1970. The bank obtained trust powers in 1978.

Murray, KY

It is a locally owned, independent bank which has expanded, through the years, to locations in Hopkinsville and Murray in addition to Cadiz. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company has focused on community finance and dealing face-to-face with both families and small-business owners while fulfilling customer needs and the dreams of area families and businesses regardless of size or construct.

We, like our area schools, strive for high performance and finding ways to prosper in an ever-changing economic environment. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company remains committed to superior performance goals coupled with an exceptional quality of customer service.

’29 defender, Aiden Baxter was among the local, young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality this past season. What will this multi-faceted, star defender pull off this coming season?

Well, that is the reason Baxter is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, whatever it turns out to be will be special.

Murray, KY: Melvin Cunningham continues to do a fine job at the helm of the Murray High Tigers. His men are getting it done in the weight room this offseason and coming off a fine year (14-1, championship game appearance, state runner-up finish) with the type talent on the roster to make the faithful wonder just how far Cunningham can take this team this coming year in light of the roster defections occasioned by the Spring baccalaureate exercises.

Cunningham has these fans asking an all-important question. Is it finally our turn to earn a 3A title (won a pair of 1A titles in 1961 and 1974)?

Aiden Baxter embodies the infusion of talent the roster has seen developed under Cunningham’s watchful eye and persistent efforts. Baxter is a 5′,10″ 140-pounder who can several of the DB slots and has been a steady performer on the special teams units in coverage and returns.

Baxter brought plenty to the table in 2025. Baxter registered four (4) tackles and showed the ability, in both practice and JV games, to get open in the downfield passing game. Baxter’s talents will be called upon this coming Fall with the talent the Tigers will be having to replace. Murray High had several players make the Big Ass Fans, Small School, All-State FB team a year ago.

Baxter is a multi-phase, type talent with the size, frame, and skill set to make contributions all over the field for his team. Baxter runs distances on the Track team and is an award winning welder. Baxter is literally playing with fire.

The most important statistic for any player attempting t help his program is wins-losses. This young player contributed to a roster which won 14-games (14-1) and made it all the way to Kroger Field as a 3A finalist. Christian Academy of Louisville was an obstacle too daunting to overcome. There is always “next season.”

Baxter is “reportedly” a very solid student. That is a quintessential characteristic for a DB of whom we expect sound coverage skills, footwork, and the ability and willingness to get down hill in the run-game and make critical stops from the first to third levels in space. DBs have to make intelligent decisions. Good students are often better prepared to do just that.

Baxter has a high IQ. Football, classroom, or otherwise…

The Tigers have a big season upcoming in 2026. They would like show the rest of the commonwealth they weren’t a fluke in ’25 and that they are here to stay long the upper echelon of the 3A classification. They will have to do it post the graduation of several all-state performers.

While some really fine talent has graduated, the remainder of the crew will have to carry on in their absence and are working hard to do just that. There is still plenty of talent around Murray, KY to make the Tigers quite formidable in ’26 and Baxter would number among them.

Baxter is a favorite to make the play rotation, and in multiple phases, entering ’26

Friday Night Fletch

We believe Baxter has a future as a two-way, multi-phase performer. With his frame and athleticism, his playing several different slots in college is far from out of the question. Matter of fact, if it were we, we would be tempted to play him at both DB and WR this coming Fall.

Baxter has plenty of explosion and power, and has good speed and quicks. Baxter is putting in the offseason work and effort to hone his craft.

The Tigers have served notice in ’25 that it was a 3A contender with which to reckon. Murray will have a target on its back going forward.

There is a big difference in being the hunted as opposed to being the hunter. Murray High is a far cry from easy prey, far from being overlooked on anyone’s schedule.

Can Coach Cunningham continue the development and run of success his Tigers and he have enjoyed? If it is to do that, it will require sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we saw a season ago from young guys stepping up, like Aiden Baxter.

We know this, the Tigers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.

This offseason will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.

Let’s just hope Aiden Baxter continues to demonstrate the marked improvement he has shown thus far. That would really get this program off on the right foot in 2026!
