Trimble, a ’26, ranked top five in everyone’s Kentucky wide list of QBs
Mason Trimble has committed to the Centre Colonels. That is a huge get in a position of need for the Colonels. However, it is a prestigious pull for Trimble too for the reasons we will discuss in this article. Not all small college offers are the same. Some are just more prestigious than others. For the D-1 or bust guys, you’re making a mistake. There are small schools who offer D-1 experiences, have D-1 histories, have D-1 facilities, and provide D-1 opportunities. Centre numbers among them. Trimble has the opportunity to experience an other-worldly, small college, football culture. Let’s hope he appreciates it. Let’s hope he takes full advantage of it.

Danville, KY: Other small colleges don’t recruit like Centre College. Centre is different. Centre is very prestigious. Centre men who toil away on the varsity football field in Danville, Kentucky are elite, sought after, the best of the best. Period.
Getting offered by Centre is a big deal. Getting offered by Centre is life changing. Getting offered by Centre means you are elite more than just athletically. You are elite academically, socially, you are just elite.
Mason Trimble was elite at the QB-slot in the KHSAA particularly as a senior. Trimble ranked top five, as a QB, in the commonwealth by just about every recruiting service ranking the Bluegrass.
Trimble led his team to a 10-4 record against the hardest schedule at any level played by any one team in the KHSAA. Trimble completed 165 of 244 passing attempts, good for a completion rate of 67.6%. Trimble threw for 2,142-yards and 26-TDs with only four (4) picks.
Trimble rushed for 309-yards and 8-TDs and was second on the team in scoring with 48-points. Considering he’s a QB, and the points for TD passes gets credited to the receivers, that is a right respectable output.
Trimble is a 6’1,” 195-pound dual threat with a 3.6-GPA in college preparatory coursework at one of Kentucky’s more challenging private schools. Yessir, that 3.6 is quintessential to getting a ride to Centre.
Trimble is just another in a long line of St. Xavier Tigers to play for Centre College

Mason Trimble pulled the trigger in an announcement which first appeared on his social media posts on or about January 19, 2026. This was a huge domino in the instate dominos sure to follow.
Trimble has had a fine prep career. He now needs to get to Danville and see how quickly he can learn a new offensive system.
Rick Fox retired as the OC at the end of the ’25 season. Now it is time to learn about the Mike Orts offensive system as Orts takes the reigns as the new OC and will also coach QBs. As an entering freshman, Trimble is slightly advantaged in that all the QBs in the room will be learning new schemes, new plays, new philosophies, new terminology.
Orts is well experienced. Orts comes to Centre fresh off a stint as the Offensive Assistant/Passing Game Coordinator at Saint John’s University.
With Orts on staff, St. John’s was 10-2 overall, going 8-1 in the MIAC conference. St. John’s has been known to make deep runs in the NCAA Playoffs.

In 2025, Orts and old Johnny Thunderbird achieved a top-10 national ranking, ending as high as 8th in the AFCA poll and 11th in D3football.com‘s final rankings after another strong postseason.
Congratulations to Mason Trimble on the wonderful opportunity. Remember, on every battlefield [you’ll] see Old Centre’s shield, so give ’em Hell, son!
