’26 place kicker proved the difference in the Campbellsville game
Football is a game of inches. That saying is attributed to the late, great Vince Lombardi and the full quote was “Football is a game of inches and inches make the champion.” Emphasis supplied. Friday night, against the top ranked team in the KHSAA’s 1A classification (Campbellsville), the KCD Bearcats were just inches away from either victory or defeat. That is when place kicker, Colt Mizuguchi, put his teammates on his back and split the uprights on two PATs which would ultimately comprise the final margin. We don’t give place kicker enough credit, but we are giving this particular one some added protein.

Louisville, KY: Mingua Beef Jerky uses Enviro-Pac CHU-2000 equipment to cook its meat to USDA required levels for both moist or dry operation. Mingua Beef Jerky wants you to become one of its many satisfied customers by sampling its quality hand sliced, all natural beef jerky. We know you’ll love it and come back for more, again and again.
Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.
Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this week’s Protein-packed Performer, Colt Mizuguchi, ’26 PK from Kentucky Country Day in Louisville, Kentucky.

Kentucky Country Day had a tough task to overcome this past Friday night. They were battling an 8-0, 1A ball club in Campbellsville for one. That wasn’t all either.

Campbellsville was the top rated team in 1A according to the KHSAA’s Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). Campbellsville was the top rated team according to the coaches’ poll in the 1A classification. Campbellsville had the highest DRI, over 90, in the oldest ratings index in Kentucky, the Durden Ratings Index.
By any and every objectionable standard, Campbellsville was supposed to win the game with Kentucky Country Day. Someone forgot to tabulate the vote of Kentucky Country Day (KCD), its coaches, its players, its place kicker.
We forget that football is a three-phase affair. There is offense, there is defense, there are special teams. It is the “special teams” part generally forgotten. Yet, it is often the “special teams” which win championships.
The other night, KCD got 75-timely yards passing, 32-critical yards rushing and two TDs; one by air, the other by ground, out of Caden Long. Parker Rudolph carried the football 21-times for 162-yards and a TD as we detailed in Monday’s feature.
The difference in the final margin was Colt Mizuguhi’s going two for two on PATs

Both teams scored three touchdowns. So, what was the difference between the two teams in a 20-18 final margin. The difference was Colt Mizuguhi’s going two for two on PATs!

We aren’t telling our winner what to do with his beef jerky, but he might consider some jerky for his snapper and holder too. After all, football is a team game, not an individual one.
Join us next week as we return to honor another weekly prize winner. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Kentucky Country Day’s Colt Mizuguchi.
This is Friday Night Fletch reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron and reminding you to PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE. Don’t forget to SAVOR THE FLAVOR!
