Middle School Spotlight: @Avery_Thomp2, Class of ’28, from @paducahmiddle, stand up and take a bow! @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @1776Bank @MaxPreps @KyHighFootball @pths_football

We enjoy our regularly running series, Middle School Spotlight. One reason we do it is the need to perpetually stay on top of tomorrow’s stars today. After all, we lose many of our features to college football and graduation each Spring.

Thompson

Now, today we have a ’28 prospect for you. As you know the upcoming freshmen across Kentucky are members of the ’26 graduating class, this means today’s feature will be entering the 7th-grade.

Avery Thompson is a two sport superstar, and we hear he is a nationally ranked basketball player. He is a guard on the hardwood. He plays WR/CB on the gridiron.

Thompson has plus length and a frame which looks like he figures to be tall as he continues to physically develop. We don’t know this for sure, but there is a better than average chance Avery is Paducah Tilghman’s HFC, Sean Thompson’s son.

Should that prove true, that would make him have quite a football pedigree. Pedigree counts for quite a lot as we have disclosed in prior features many times. No reason to re-plow that already plowed ground.

We like him at WR as he is pictured. He has proven to have sticky hands, long extremities, and the ability to use his length to put defenders on his back and pluck balls from the air with his hands like one plucks a plumb from off a fruit tree in an orchard.

Of course, his speed, agility, and length makes him a difficult guy at corner from whom to gain any separation. Blue Tornado opponents, attempting to strike down field in the passing game, are learning this quickly.

Athletes of Thompson’s ilk are among the reasons Blue Tornado fans are so excited about the program’s prospects going forward. They should be; guys like this are how championships are built.
