We pick games in all six (6) classes This is something we do every year and have for as long as we have been on air. We pick winners, we predict scores, and Saturday across the commonwealth, on the Kentucky News Network, our guy, Friday Night Fletch, will go on air […]

This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 10-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

It is part of our yearly ritual. Every year, between the end of “Dead Period” and the beginning of the season, we run down the six (6) Kentucky classifications and forecast, for you, the best teams from the top down. We have done similarly this year. Now, if you have read us for any period of time, we don’t just publish lists. Anyone can do that. What makes “KPGFootball” the industry standard, in football, is our analysis. We don’t just tell you who; but, we tell you why. Enjoy the article.

Calloway County High is under new direction in 2025. Coby Lewis has been brought in from off the Tilghman staff to resurrect the Laker football program. Lewis helped the “Blue Tornado” to a 15-0 mark and a 4A title a year ago and will look to build off his former head coaching experience he had at Trigg County before joining Sean Thompson’s staff in Paducah. Lewis is the right man for this job and he will not find the cupboard barren. Brayden Tupper is a stout young guy who has considerable power and strength stacked on his frame now, especially in light of his being a rising junior. Guys who bench press 290, pull 535, and clean 255 generally play around these parts. Enjoy this article about a young gun who should be on the field plenty this coming season.

Often times you can tell a lot about one legend with how well or poorly he fairs against another legend or legends. For Allan Cox, he owned a 7-3 record against Jack Morris and “Mighty Mayfield” in 10-appearances against him as the head football coach of “The Blue Tornado.” That is really remarkable. Cox posted 106-wins over an 11-season run with five trips to the title game, winning the whole enchilada in 1985. On top of all of that, Coach Cox was a war hero in Vietnam, returning home with his entire platoon alive and being awarded “The Bronze Star” with a “V” device for valor in combat. This guy was a football coach’s, football coach. Enjoy the feature.

Those of you who have been featured in our “Slow Motion Series” may not realize this, but you owe your inclusion to one of our intrepid staff members or agents at Kentucky Prep Gridiron. Many articles begin with “Hey Fletch, you need to feature this guy or that guy” together with a small explanation why the coverage is warranted. This article began that very way. We were contacted, last night, by our central Kentucky agent, who formerly coached on this end of Kentucky, and he told us we needed to feature Al Starnes. His reasoning was Starnes is the Hoover Niece of the western end of the commonwealth. Well, that was good enough for us…Enjoy the feature.
