High School football teams have made a living with both guards and nose-guards framed exactly like Andy Li. Li, who wears number 70 in the picture to the left of this paragraph (Photo Credit: Robertson County Connection), is 5-9 and weighs 240 pounds.

Stocky, compact, athletic guards and nose-guards with those dimensions are a staple at both offensive and defensive positions where Andy is slotted. For one, he will never lose the leverage battle as he starts out lower than the player across from him almost all the time. Andy’s 240-pound frame, on such a short stature, tells us he’s spent quality time in the weight-room, pumping iron.

Li has the quicks and speed to get out in front and lead the sweep when he pulls and to jump the gap and gain penetration from the NG slot on defense. He fires off nice and low and is able to dip on contact and rip both through and under an offensive lineman’s hands where linemen are generally ill-suited for success.

Look for Andy to help lead the Bobcats this coming season as he is entering his junior year. The junior season is thought to be one where most players show the largest progression from the year previous.

Congratulations, to Andy Li for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
