Coach Lyon’s Class 2A, preseason Top-10 Football Poll…

July 25, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Someone contacted old Coach Lyon and asked when we were going to put out our preseason top-10 football polls for each classification. Well, today seemed like as good a day as any to continue the tradition. Since KPGFootball started with the top classification when picking district winners, this time we started with Class 1A. Today we give you our projections for the next classification up from the lowest one, here is Class 2A!

And so it begins…July 22…

Today, all over Kentucky, is the first day teams have been able to wear what the KHSAA calls “shells.” What gear constitutes “shells” is set out in Bylaw 23 and its subparts. “Shells” are defined as shorts, helmet, and shoulder pads. Judging from some social media postings we have viewed in advance of today, some of you were confused as to exactly when you could add shoulder pads to your practice equipment. We watched one middle school video of a member school practicing in “shells” last week. Anyway, the donning of shoulder pads means different things to different players so we sent out a query to some of Kentucky’s best high school players to see what, if anything, it signified to them. This article contains what we received back from some of the players asked.

Reflections from South Laurel today…

Breathitt County went to one of the more prestigious 7 on 7 tournaments in Kentucky and we decided it would be fun to tag along, so we did. This article contains some of the outstanding performances we witnessed both from teams and players. We hope you enjoy the article.

This is part three of our three-part series “Wandering through the wasteland…” Today we predict the district winners in Classes 2 and 1A. This concludes our series. I would mention Fletcher Long, formerly a writer here at KPGFootball and now working for Bluegrass Sports Nation called and said some coaches have taken strenuous exception to this analysis. To those offended, I am saddened you take offense. Still, we strive to be true to our craft and our opinion is just that…ours.

Dekel Crowdus, “…the best receiver I have ever seen…”

July 9, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

No matter what some key board assassin or self-described football “expert” may write (us included), real football players know each other when they see each other. That is why peer recognition will always mean more to a player than what some pundit may either write or think. As the old joke goes, “One can’t fool a nit-nat.” Everyone is on the Crowdus train and, truthfully, if he played in a locale more known for producing football talent, he would likely be a five-star and the top WR in the nation, where he may end up before it is all said and done anyway. Enjoy this article about a real player of the game and not just someone who can wow them at a combine. HB.

It is STUDENT-athlete, not student-ATHLETE; the migration toward elite academics over the football factory

June 20, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

This may be the most important article we have published. There is a trend taking over the commonwealth of Kentucky and we love it. The trend, committing to elite academic institutions over waiting on D-1s to come-off with an offer, appears to be spreading and thank the good Lord for that. Look people, it is STUDENT-athlete and not student-ATHLETE. Let’s be smart out there and use our athletic talents to set us up with academic opportunities which set us up for rewarding, fulfilling, and comfortable lives.

Kentuckians invade Tennessee Mega-Camp and show-out

May 12, 2019 Fletcher Long 0

We were invited down to cover the Elite 3 Foundation’s Tennessee Mega-Camp. Needless to say we took full advantage of such a golden opportunity. There were four Kentuckians there and we thought we would break-down how they performed. Like is generally the case, the Kentuckians showed (once again) why the perception Kentucky is a “basketball state” is just grossly in error. Enjoy this article about the four Kentuckians who performed yesterday against some of the best and most highly recruited players middle-Tennessee has to offer.

Kentuckians shine with performances at the APC…

We couldn’t get to every Kentucky performance and there were more outstanding performances from Kentucky athletes than we could possibly record. However, these performances were extraordinary and were worthy of mention on what was a find day for Kentucky prospects demonstrating they should be recruited as hard as any other state represented.

#Brotherhood

We see #Brotherhood pop up around the commonwealth especially when it comes to discussing or featuring Kentucky’s best, young football talent. What on earth does it mean? Truthfully, it has way more meaning and significance than you may ever realize. This is our 1,000th article, published free for your enjoyment. #Brotherhood!
