William Shakespeare once mused “What’s in a name?” Well there is something in a name and as a fellow “Fletcher” I would profess Union County’s Abreyan “Abe” Fletcher is doing more with the name than I ever did. We are going to look at this special three (3) phase contributor and whether he can take the Braves back to Lexington to get another bite at the apple. Along the way, we may have a little fun with the etymology of the name the two of us share. Enjoy the feature.

His name was James Hollowell. He was from Henderson, Kentucky. He played high school football for Barrett Manual High and later for the University of Louisville. He was a teammate of Johnny Unitas at Louisville. He coached the great Sam Ball in high school who would later star for both UK’s Wildcats and the NFL’s Baltimore Colts. Everyone called him “Mojo,” and Mojo Hollowell brought good fortune, good luck, and good “Mojo” every coaching stop along his career path. Enjoy this look back at a guy who was among the better guards to ever lace them up in the KHSAA (or its forerunner) and to ever blow a whistle, or call a play, on a KHSAA sideline. It is getting time to vote for “Mr. Football” around Kentucky. There are plenty of candidates this year who have taken their teams to unimaginable heights. One candidate who shouldn’t be discounted nor overlooked is Union County’s Jarren Johnson. This guy here has had a “Mr. Football-type” season for the very reasons we discuss herein. Enjoy the feature.

Jarrren Johnson has been lighting it up for the Union County Braves. The Junior dual-threat QB has proven more dangerous with his feet than his arm but his team is 7-0 and will be favored in its remaining three games so just keep doing what you’ve been doing playa! Enjoy the feature. FL.

After last night’s 22-point loss to Union County, the remaining five games are games the Storm is capable of winning. It will take a Herculean effort to run the table (5-0) but we have the talent and ability to do just that. A 7-3 finish would put us in the number 2 slot in district 1 and assure us a couple home playoff games. This may be shaping up to be quite the year. FL.

Caiden Broadus, from Union County, is the back on which football traditions are carried- @cbroadus28 @teeroyhowell @KrisHughes04 @Legacy_Recruit @55CoachJohns @HopkinsCentral @evans02_mike @_CoachManning @minguabeefjerky @1776Bank @PrepSpin

Everyone who even remotely follows the sport knows the Union County Braves are among Kentucky’s elite 3A programs especially on the western end of Kentucky. They used to have the dubious distinction of having to battle “The Blue Tornado” for district supremacy but realignment has remedied this. They will still have to contend with Trigg County and the Hopkins County Central Storm’s “Air Raid” offense. No easy task. Linemen like Caiden Broadus easy the climb. Enjoy the feature. FL.

They are quite possibly the ‘feel good’ story thus far in the ’22 football season in the Kentucky High School game. They are also (in our magazine’s opinion) the best darn football team playing 3A right now in the commonwealth. Before you dismiss this opinion, let us make our case…HB

Sometimes predicting stardom in the future for some athletes is just too easy. Such was the case for Rylan George. George is a ’24 prospect about whom everyone will know in very short order. One day, we will look back on this article and wonder how in the world we were the first to predict this. We believe this may be a “Power 5” guy going forward. HB.
