Christian Shackelford is built exactly like the “big boys” want to see him. He’s 6’7,” 290-pounds and sports a 3.8-GPA. Shackelford got six (6) games of run over his sophomore season and that isn’t too bad considering LCA had the most senior laden group of trench men in the KHSAA a year ago at any level of competition. There will be plenty of competition to fill some of these holes in ’25 resulting from the Spring ’24 commencement ceremonies. Enjoy this look at a ’27 who seems destined to grow into one of his graduating class’s very best offensive linemen before it is said and done. We don’t make head coaches anymore the ilk or equal of your Doc Farrells, your Judge Waddells, or even your Homer Rices. No sir, those days appear long gone and who knows if we will ever see them reappear. Still, it is fun to remember when our high school football coaches were way more than just coaches. Many of them were fine teachers, accomplished academics, and community leaders. They were heroes to some and fine gentlemen to all. They required their players to act in conformity with a certain code of conduct from the young men they would lead and the young men they would coach. Enjoy this look at Judge Waddell, perhaps the first, great coach of the Highlands High School era. His efforts would result in the construction of one of the KHSAA’s all-time football factories, football dynasties.

Mike Yeagle was as fine a football coach as the KHSAA has ever known. He coached football for 15-years, winning 183-games and losing a scant 27-times. Yeagle took over a Beechwood team which had one title prior to his being hired (1984) and turned the same Tiger squad into the KHSAA team of the 90s (7-titles in 10-years). At the end of the day, we have no idea how many titles nor games he might have won had he not retired when he did nor passed when he did. Sixty-two years old is mighty young to be passing on to your reward. Still, the Lord takes us when He is ready for us and when He thinks we have our best chance of redemption. In the end, Yeagle is missed and will never be fully replaced. Enjoy this feature.

Logan Smith is a dude. If you haven’t read the book “Football 101: Boo-Boo’s a Quarterback” that may be an empty reference for you. Smith has made the All-WKC three straight years and was Calloway’s Defensive POY a year ago. Smith will be laboring under a new staff in ’25 (Coby Lewis) and we believe that may be a match made in heaven. Enjoy the feature.

We are pleased to announce we are getting in the “Mustang business” this season, the Muhlenberg County variety. This is a program which is developing talent at an impressive clip and has a core group of young talent coming up from middle school ready to compete for “Friday Night PT” as 9th graders. Some of them have the frame, power, strength, and explosion to “plug in” and they will certainly have the guidance. Brighter days are dead ahead Greenville. We will be very pleased to bring it to you right here on our forum.

Greeneville, Kentucky has been described by one of our generation’s finest folk artists and song writers (John Prine) as “paradise.” We don’t know about that, but don’t dispute it, but we do know the Mustangs have some enviable, young talent to mix in with some big-time returners for the ’25 Fall season. One of those returners is Trever Hardesty who, we have been assured, will NOT come off the field next season. Today we celebrate Trever Hardesty as he earns the week’s coveted Kentucky Comfort Creator Award from Big Ass Fans. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it comfortable out there Kentucky!

We have learned about “Mustangs” and the herd mentality and society than we ever thought we would know. If we are going to cover Muhlenberg County this coming Fall, this knowledge will be right handy. This particular Mustang looks to be “The Stallion” of this particular herd. Wilken would be a solid choice for that assignment. He has all the physical tools necessary to fulfill the job description. Enjoy this look at a kid who should be bucking for All-State recognition at the end of next season.
