We identified John Luke Minner as one of the best LBs in the KHSAA in 2024. That is why he made first team All-State on our Big Ass Fan’s Small School team. Coming into ’25 he figures to be on the list again provided he performs commensurate to how he performed a year ago. He has committed to play collegiately at Brown University in the Ivy Leagues. That is a Division I ride to one of the country’s most prestigious schools. If catching a ride to the Ivy Leagues isn’t prize worthy, we aren’t sure we know what is. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky, while you allow us to help out in that regard.

I got a call one time from a kid who had signed with Princeton. Princeton, like Brown, is an Ivy League school, or the elite of the elite as this country has historically thought of the Ivy League. Well anyway this kid was voicing some displeasure about Princeton’s having a bad season. My response…”Are you kidding me, son? You’re going to Princeton. Who cares if you go 0-40 while there? You’re still getting a degree from Princeton.” You get the point. Football is a tool to a better life if you’re smart about it. Enjoy this feature about Kentucky’s most lethal edge threat and how he has scored a major win.

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 1A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.

Luke Pennington, a Dayton commit, has been keeping it pretty cool out there under the “Friday Night Lights.” Matter of fact, our Kentucky Comfort Creator has thrown 82-TDs the last two seasons without a single INT. He completes nearly 80% of his passing attempts making him among the most efficient QBs the high school game in Kentucky has ever seen. Enjoy the feature and let’s keep it cool out there Kentucky.

Watch out Sayre (11-0); here come the Paris Greyhounds in round two! @1776Bank @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball @kyhighs @HLpreps @MaxPreps @HopkinsCentral @840WHAS @sfitz_840whas @evans02_Mike

Paris heads to Lexington, KY to take on the 11-0, Sayre Spartans, and its splendiferous sophomore QB, Luke Pennington. Pennington had thrown 37-TD passes to zero INTs entering the first round game against Harlan. However, Paris has some fine talent of its own, including ’27 signal-caller, Julius Gregory and a young head coach everyone is talking discussing (Tyquan Rice, pictured). We will take a look at this matchup, which might go a ways toward reserving a slot on Kroger Field in early December. Friday Night Fletch

Being a Pennington isn’t easy. Being a Pennington headed to Marshall to play QB will prove to be even more challenging. So far Cole Pennington has performed excellently and led a new program to unprecedented heights in 1A’s toughest district. Enjoy this feature about an acorn which didn’t fall too far from its tree. His is one of the most recognized names in Kentucky football. Largely because his dad, Chad Pennington, who is also the head football coach of the Sayre’s program, played 10-years in the NFL, was a Heisman Trophy finalist for Marshall’s Thundering Herd, and was drafted 18th-overall, as the first QB in the 2000 NFL draft. However, his son’s ability to play the same position is drawing quite a few apt comparisons. Enjoy this look at a feature about the son and not the dad and join us again next week as we feature another outstanding candidate. HB.
