Storm Warning

’27 DE has the measurements coaches crave

One of the great joys in covering high school football is getting to discover kids who put in the offseason work sufficient to take themselves from a bit part to a leading role. Each year, high school programs loose valuable pieces to its attack, in all three phases, and are forced to find new weaponry to load and fire the next Fall. It is fun, as we monitor and track the game year round, to anticipate those guys who will plug in first. We think we have one for you today.

Morton’s Gap, KY: Every year in high school programs loose important pieces to the machinery. Some years you may lose more than others. However, you may be rest assured an important piece or two amongst the three phases will cross the graduation stage every Spring. This coming graduation will be no different.

Graduation stage wreaks havoc
on rosters yearly

The ability to track and monitor rosters, players, and teams in the offseason puts us in the enviable position of being able to forecast tomorrow’s stars. We have gotten right good at making such prognostications.

We have foreseen that Connor Miles, the ’27 DE, will take off in ’25, his junior year. There are several reasons for our confidence.

For starters, Miles is 6’5,” 212-pounds. He has plenty of space on his lengthy, tall frame to add “good weight.” He is working off-season with the perfect program to make that happen for him.

Miles played in three (3) varsity games as a sophomore. Big, lanky kids can take a minute to develop.

Sometimes young bigs are late to the party. Hey, better late than never.

Miles did play well when provided opportunity. Miles registered 4-tackles a year ago in his limited run.

The ’27 prospect has been putting in the work. We talked to Coach Manning about some of his young talent which will be pressed into service this coming season. He mentioned both Miles and [Aaron] Wells particularly.

Coach Manning tells KPGFootball, Miles “…will be moving into a role” this coming season, Miles’ junior year. That role may include two-way, line of scrimmage deployment.

Any football aficionado will tell you, be he either coach, media member, or just a fanatic, that Friday Night Stardom begins in the offseason. Miles trek to the first string, and the top of the depth chart, began right there; on the bench press, in the squat rack, etc. The Storm is putting in an offseason which is sure to develop some dependable stars on whom to rely under the glare of the Friday Night Lights.

Miles will certainly be one of those. We know this because of how well he played in limited run on the varsity roster a year ago.

Miles played the heck out of limited opportunity. Miles has the length, frame, and height to make much more out of his coming opportunities.

Colleges love DEs framed exactly like Miles. Can he make the transition? Certainly, if he keeps his nose to the grindstone.

Then again, what do we know?
