’29 versatile athlete has big shoes to fill but the skills to fill them

What a year Coach Coby Lewis and his Lakers had in ’25. To go from winless in ’24 to six (6) wins in ’25 is quite the turn around and quite the testament to Coach Lewis’s ability to coach up a group of young men and a football team. What a year young Jackson Wyatt also had. Not too many freshmen get on the field in 4A football and enjoy the type success Wyatt enjoyed. Wyatt averaged over eight (8) yards a carry in limited opportunity, caught four (4) passes one of which he scored, registered 15-tackles, four (4) TFLs, picked a pass he returned 18-yards and forced a fumble. On a six (6) win, 4A football team, getting that from a frosh is quite impressive. What he contributes from this point forward should be equally impressive.

The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company, based in Cadiz, Kentucky, was founded August 7, 1970. The bank obtained trust powers in 1978.

Murray, KY

It is a locally owned, independent bank which has expanded, through the years, to locations in Hopkinsville and Murray in addition to Cadiz. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company has focused on community finance and dealing face-to-face with both families and small-business owners while fulfilling customer needs and the dreams of area families and businesses regardless of size or construct.

We, like our area schools, strive for high performance and finding ways to prosper in an ever-changing economic environment. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company remains committed to superior performance goals coupled with an exceptional quality of customer service.

’29 ATH, Jackson Wyatt was among the local, young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality this past season. What will this budding star player pull off in coming seasons?

Well, that is the reason Wyatt is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, whatever it turns out to be will be special.

Murray, KY: Logan Smith has to go down as one of the finest players to ever grace a playing field for the Calloway County Lakers football program. Smith, this past season, rushed for 1,629-yards, scored 21-rushing TDs, scored 128-points, led the team with 82-tackles, 10.5-TFLs, a FR, and an INT.

How does a team replace that amount of production? How does a program replace that type multi-phase versatility. We would suppose that is how Smith made our Big Ass Fans, Large School, All-State FB Team.

Brayden Winchester also made our team. The ’27 DE/WR caught five (5) passes, two (2) of which were for TDs. Winchester recorded a safety. Winchester logged 49-stops, eight (8)-TFLs, and 14.5 QB-sacks. Winchester returns, but to where should he look for help, to pick up some of the slack Smith’s departure promises to leave? We may have an idea on this one.

We believe the answer may be in ’29’s Jackson Wyatt. Wyatt is recorded as having drawn action in nine (9) varsity games a year ago. Wyatt averaged over eight (8) yards a carry in limited opportunity, caught four (4) passes one (1) of which was for a TD, picked off a pass and retuned it 18-yards, registered 15-tackles, 4-TFLs, and forced a fumble.

That is quite a bit of production out of a freshman. That is particularly true out of a freshman at the 4A level.

We were able to reach Coby Lewis regarding this young player. Lewis was honorably mentioned in ’25 for our Big Ass Fans Large School All-State Coach of the Year Award.

Lewis told KPGFootball, “Jackson Wyatt, and freshmen like him, are the cornerstones of building successful programs. We need more of those type skill sets, those type frames, to be successful playing 4A football on the western end of Kentucky.”

Lewis continued, “We are fortunate to get a rising senior like Brayden Winchester returning to lead the forces in ’26. Winchester can’t do it alone. He will need some help. Jackson Wyatt looks capable of providing that type help.”

Wyatt looks the part. He is listed anywhere from 5’9″ to 5’11.” However, Wyatt is just a freshman and his frame hasn’t finished. He still has some growing to do, some developing to undergo.

Jackson Wyatt had quite a freshman season with nine (9) games of varsity PT and four (4) TFLs

Friday Night Fletch

We believe Wyatt has a future as a two-way, multi-phase performer. Wyatt looks to have plenty of twitch and explosion, is a plus athlete, has good speed and spacial quickness.

The Lakers served notice in ’25 that it was a powerhouse 4A program with which to reckon. Calloway will have a target on its back going forward and should expect to catch opponents at their best.

Can Wyatt continue the development and the run of success he has enjoyed to date? If it is to do that it will require sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we saw a season ago from young Wyatt.

We know this, the Lakers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.

This offseason will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.

Let’s just hope Jackson Wyatt continues to demonstrate the marked improvement he has shown us thus far. That would really get this program off on the right foot in 2026!
