Has Todd County’s new football coach been throwing shade at the last one?

First of all, Todd County pretended the identity of the new head coach required a National Security Clearance. They made a “formal announcement” January 27, 2020 and broke it in a story written by Scott Brown and appearing online in YourSportsEdge.com.

Well this is no knock on Mr. Brown or his online publication for which he works. It is our throwing shade at the Todd County program and the loose lips flying around the county.

As you will see from the below picture of what we tweeted out on January 22nd, a full five-days prior to the “formal announcement” we not only hinted strongly as to whom was the hire, we were kind enough to furnish his picture. Some secret, huh?

For those of you who subscribe to this site, and follow us on Twitter, this is probably why you do. We know things before our competitors.

If we have to wait on YourSportsEdge.com to tell us things, what good are we? You want the information first, you want to be in the know, you have come to the right site.

Now, in another bit of information furnishing you can’t find anywhere else, our sources within the Rebel program tell us the new head football coach, Josh Robins, has been “throwing shade” at Darell Keith, his immediate predecessor. Keith, the reigning Class 2A, District 2 Coach of the Year as voted by his now-former 2nd-district colleagues, went 11-11 at Todd in two years and parleyed that into a job at Clinton High School, outside Knoxville, Tennessee.

Clinton plays in Tennessee’s 5A-classification. That is hardly a lateral move folks.

As a former coach, it is NEVER a good practice to speak ill of the former coaching staff or its head coach. For one, you have kids still very devoted to that staff who will tell him. You have parents, donors, and other community members still fond of the guy who will also tell him.

Wait until you have established yourself as a “winner.” Still not good to do it then, but if you do, you have your record to buttress your claims of superiority.

According to several sources, Coach Robins told the team, assembled last night, that there weren’t going to be anymore 6-4 records (Todd’s regular season record in 2019) for the Rebel program. They were going to do better. Is that right?

Well, according to the article published by Mr. Brown, a link to which is above provided, Robins resigned as the HFC at Fort Campbell at the end of this past December. In his time there, comprising three seasons, the Falcons were 4-27. Prior to hiring on at the Fort, Mr. Brown reports Robins had been defensive coordinator at Clarksville Northwest for five seasons (2012-2016).

We went to the Maxpreps.com site and checked the Vikings’ statistics to see how well that program faired over those five seasons. According to that site, Northwest High won 16 games total over that span of time.

The high-water mark was the program’s going 6-5 in 2016 following the 5-5 it posted in 2015. The best two-year stint Coach Robins has EVER been a part of, on the gridiron in his 8-years on the sideline (5 of which as a coordinator) is the same 11-11 the guy he is criticizing just posted at the school where he is now the coach.

In 8-years, Robins has been apart of coaching in 83 games, 63 of which were losses. That would be 20-63 for a winning percentage well beneath Keith’s .500, or .241 to be accurate. William the Conqueror here has been apart of 20-wins over 8-years in 83 opportunities. We’re not throwing shade here, the stats are what they are. Nice hire Todd County!

Anyway, we earnestly hope the Rebels do well under Robins. We also hope Robins outperforms his history.

However, when you are a career 2.5 wins-a-year football coach, historically, it probably is a poor practice to throw shade at the outgoing guy. Especially where that guy is your new district’s reigning Coach of the Year. Just a little advice from Old Coach Lyon.
