Garard has lost narrowly to a 4A power and a legit, 5A; but stands at 3-2 entering its district race
Garard County pulled an elite coordinator out of the college ranks who had plenty of HS experience in Jeff Hester. Its young heard coach, Spencer Crutchfield, has been doing an enviable job developing talent. Basically, Garard County is starting to look the part and fit the bill. Look out 3A, D4, the Golden Lions are prowling and appear fairly hungry.

There is a quote attributed to Mitch Aguiar (above) relevant here. The quote is, A lion doesn’t need to tell you he’s a lion.
Aguiar would know something of being one predaciously bad dude. He is, after all, a former Navy SEAL and mixed martial arts fighter.
There is another group of lions starting to lose the necessity of needing to announce its lion-hood. That group of lions live and work in Garard County, Kentucky.
Spencer Crutchfield was hired to fill the post of head football coach at Garard County. His first season was ’22 and he won three (3) games, his inaugural tour, followed by three (3) wins in ’23.
It is year three (3). Through the first five games, Garard has already won three games (Middlesboro, Somerset, and East Jessamine) and the Golden Lions don’t look nearly satisfied with West Jessamine (2-3, 5A) coming to town this coming Friday.
We have Garard as a three (3) point favorites to beat the Colts at home. We believe Garard will be prohibitive favorites over Casey County and Harrison County and pick ’em/toss-ups, margin wise, against Marion County and Mercer County.
Should they run the table, we are looking at 8-2 and an exhilarated bunch of home folks. If they beat West Jessamine and the two teams they should easily beat (Casey and Harrison) that is 6-4 and much the same result.
Either way, the Golden Lions are trending upwardly. Garard County is excellently coached.
Some of these Golden Lions are killing it statistically. You know what they say about statistics, your statistics will indict you while your film will convict you.
That is a bit dark. We prefer to say the Lions statistics exonerate them.
Zak Dailey is top 10 in 3A FGs and 11th in PATs. Nate Dougherty is top 10 in 3A tackles. Cam Peak is top 15 in rushing yards.
Tre Smith is top 15 in INTs. The team is top 15 in both rushing and INTs, team wise.
We were able to catch up with Coach Crutchfield while working up this article. He told KPGFootball, “Everyday we want to stay consistent in how we work and strive to get better.”
The team is rendering an amazingly consistent performance. The team is getting much, much better.
Mission accomplished.
