Hard to imagine a player meaning anymore to a team than the diminutive, rising junior, Cameron Swift (5-8), meant to Coach Chad Broadrick’s East Robertson Indians in 2017. The little quarterback who could gained 859 yards rushing from scrimmage in 162 carries for a per carry average of 5.3 yards with five games of 100 yards or more over the Indians’ ten contests in 2017.  He had 16 rushing TDs, housed a punt, and converted 3, two point afters on the year to score 108 points of the teams’ 252 for the season. He was second on the team in All-Purpose yards with 954 to departed senior, Tommy Blakemore (1000 yards), and led the team in yards contributed with 1,413 (859 rushing, 510 passing, 44 receiving). About the only thing negative one can say about Swift’s performance in 2017 is he fumbled it 7 times on the year, losing 4. Other than that slip up, his play was reminiscent of the East Robertson’s glory years at the turn of the millennium when it terrorized its classification in both its region and across the State. With players contributing seasonal outputs like Swift, perhaps those days may well return to the boys from Cross Plains.

Congratulations to Cameron Swift for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player or Team of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
