Things didn’t get off to much of a start last week, for the East Robertson Indians as they fell to White House High School 34-0 to open the season. Next up was a team in Richland High School which was entering the game with East Robertson 1-0 after prevailing over Perry County, 29-8, in its opener. To the casual observer, things were looking pretty grim. Well, there would be none of that 0-2 business for the boys from Cross Plains, Tennessee. Cameron Swift would open the scoring with a 52 yard keeper and then he would hook up with Taylor Groves for 34 yards to set up first and goal from the 2 yard line which Swift would carry, himself, across the goal line to jump out on Richland 16-0 early. In the second quarter, after Richland had pulled to within a score, Swift scored on another TD run from two yard out then, with the Indians now ahead 24-10, Swift handed the ball to Taylor Groves and Groves took it 80 yards to pay dirt. The Indians would even its record at 1-1 by vanquishing Richland’s Raiders in a Friday night blow-out.
Congratulations to Cameron Swift for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
