@DJ_Walker7 locked in tough battle for the QB-position at @SportsLafayette. @lhs_fbbossters @lhshighschool @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @1776Bank @KyHighFootball @MaxPreps

Lexington Lafayette High School is in a little of a quandary. This quandary may be as pronounced as the one which resulted from a 2-9 finish and first round exodus in ’21.

The Generals need to consistently move the football and put points on the board in ’22. The Generals need to more consistently compete with Dunbar, Tates Creek, and Henry Clay.

Right now, the ball club had two QBs who split the snaps with the majority of the snaps going to ’23’s Stephen Dawahare. However, though not getting quite the same number of opportunities, the team seemed to respond a tad better in ’21 when ’24’s DJ Walker was at the controls.

Walker was a sophomore in ’21. It is tough for sophomores to find the field in high school football in Lexington, Kentucky particularly in the 6A classification.

Still, Walker, a dual threat 6-1, 175-pounder who absolutely looks the part, showed glimpses of great promise over his 10-games of varsity run.

He was the team’s second leading passer, its third leading rusher, and completed close to 54% of his passing attempts. Walker was second on the team in TD completions and managed to find the end zone rushing too.

Now, Dawahare, a ’23 with another year of eligibility remaining, isn’t just going to step aside. Walker will have to win the position.

Truthfully, if Walker is the type of athlete at the position we believe him to be, a little competition for the spot should only sharpen his performance. Having to win the job should be something which puts some pep in his step this coming Spring.

  1. DJ Walker has transferred to Fredrick Douglas!! I’ve heard that Dawahare will not be at Lafayette next year as well.

  2. I just found this article. DJ is now back at Lafayette, playing QB in the last two games. He helped them snap their 19 game losing streak.
