Once again it is the first of the week, which means it is time to anoint another Independence Bank player of the week. Independence Bank is proud to sponsor a weekly article highlighting players in the areas where Independence Bank flourishes who embody the same type of revolutionary service to their respective football teams which has made Independence Bank unique and special in the banking industry. Independence Bank has a goal of achieving everyday excellence and this week we are focusing on a player whose performance exceeded both the Owensboro Apollo’s and the Owensboro community’s expectations. We are focusing on a 2019 DT/OT who is 6-1, weighs 305 pounds, and is referred to as Man-Mountain by people in football-powerlifting circles. That player is Daniel, but he prefers to be called D.C., Boone from Owensboro, Kentucky.
Now I had a great opportunity to get to chat with Coach Hawkins, formerly of Louisville Doss and now with Owensboro Apollo. He is really invigorated by the opportunity to coach the Class 5A, District 1 Eagles. Apollo is coming off a 7-4 record, with a surprising early exit in last year’s playoffs to a struggling Greenwood team many felt underperformed last year, if I am being honest. With plans of a new football facility being rumored and with linemen like Mr. Boone, I can see why he is excited.
I attended the State Powerlifting Meet yesterday at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. What I saw out of Man-Mountain was astounding. Daniel D.C. Boone bench pressed 415 pounds and Power-cleaned 240 to win the Heavyweight Division’s State Championship with a combined lift of 655 pounds. He also won the award for the event’s highest bench press. Second was 360. Looking at the young man, it is my earnest assessment that had the back squat or dead lift been tested, his numbers would have been even more impressive, assuming that is possible. Boone looked to me to be both powerful and explosive. There can be no question about his strength. Everything about him physically screamed football player and I would have to think he will be a load, next season, for Apollo opponents on either side of the ball. With his size, strength, and power, if he wants to be called D.C., as opposed to Daniel, Boone; well then, you do what you want, but he is D.C. to me. I’m not arguing with him.

I may be a little bias, this being my son, but I have that right. This your man sets he’s goals, and works until he achieves them. Then he sets new ones. Not only is Daniel a great athlete, but shares a strong faith in Christ. He knows who is the one that blesses him with that power. We are just the ones that get blessed with him.
