@ChazGeraghty from @HCougs_Football is a 2021 baller who crushes the eye-test

Talk about a kid crushing the eye-test, how about Holy Cross’s QB, Chaz Geraghty. Geraghty is a 6-4, 215-pound prospect playing QB and LBer for the Cougars whose college home is probably not under center.

We don’t mind that, lots of kids play collegiately at positions where they weren’t played in high school. We don’t know he won’t be a QB in college for sure, as he easily has the frame for that, but he also has the frame and athleticism to play his other two listed positions of TE or LB at the next level.

One thing is certain, his play took Holy Cross to another level in 2019. With the graduation of senior running-back Luke Davis (214 carries, 1,508 yards rushing, 23-rushing TDs), Geraghty will have to duplicate or better his junior numbers for the Cougars to continue to occupy the rarified air it was privileged to breathe last season.

According to his profile listed on Next College Student Athlete, a recruiting site regularly accessed by fans and schools alike, Geraghty pops a 5-flat, 40-yard dash and bench presses 230-pounds. Of course the fact the site lists him at 6-3, 210 instead of the 6-4, 215-pounds we presently know him to be indicates those numbers haven’t been updated in a while.

The Cougars were 11-3 in 2019 and lost in the semis to Pikeville. As good as Pikeville was in 2019, Holy Cross, though losing to them 36-7 in the semis, gave Pikeville a better game than they got against Paintsville on Commonwealth Stadium’s Kroger Field (Pikeville 43 – Paintsville 0). Even with Davis departing, we believe Holy Cross will challenge for the Class 1A State Football Championship again in 2020.

Geraghty was a dual-threat guy at the QB position in a big way last season. Chaz completed 71 of his 166 passing attempts for 1,182 yards passing with 10 aerial TDs against 13-picks. He was more dangerous when he kept it. He was second on the team in rushing yards with 890 in 124-carries, tallying another 11 TDs on the ground running from scrimmage.

Geraghty was strong on defense from his LBer spot last season too. Chaz had 47-tackles with a tackle for loss and an interception. While there were LBers with better numbers in the Derby City certainly, there weren’t any who also had to carry the offensive load required of Geraghty by the Cougars.

This is a kid one needs to keep his eye on as we roll into the 2020-season. We know we’ll be watching him closely. We suggest you should do the same.
