Cam Alsip is the type of high school player we LOVE to cover. He’s a hard worker, kills it in the weight room, all the while looking like a mild mannered, Academic team member. Yeah, Clark Kent didn’t look like much either, at least not in glasses. This kid is busting his tail to get better and it will translate onto the field. With 15-TFLs, 6.5 sacks, and five (5) FFs in ’24, how much better can this kid possibly get? I feel sorry for the kids trying to block this monster. Enjoy the feature.

Slow Motion Replay: Marvin Dantzler has made a career doing the hard right over the easy wrong and winning the day!

We talk often about the versatility of the player we feature on this site. How about coaching versatility? Coach Marvin Dantzler has won a KHSAA title (Central, 2018) to go with two OSSAA titles at John Marshall High in Oklahoma City (2010, 2011) in Track & Field. In football, to go with the title in 2018, Dantzler’s teams have made six (6) semis, won six (6) regions, and made 13-playoff appearances. Dantzler has been the Oklahoman COY twice, Regional COY, OTCA COY, Tulsa World COY, and a four (4) time KHSAA District COY. If he isn’t one of Kentucky’s all-timers, he soon will be. We think the time for him is RIGHT NOW! Enjoy this feature.

You know we usually give this award to a player who counts among his team’s, district’s, region’s or even the Bluegrass’ very best at his position. Everyone has to start somewhere and sometimes a kid who gets five (5) games of varsity run on one of 5A’s more stacked rosters is deserving of some recognition and some world famous, all-beef jerky products. Christopher Dezern got quite a bit of play for a frosh a year ago and looks to get a ton of PT this coming season. Tripp Setliff is a guy we saw quite a bit from on the Future Stars circuit. He played on the KY Future Stars team in seventh and eighth grade. He is a hulking interior guy who has done quite a bit of work on his feet, speed, spacial quicks, and explosion. He is rounding into a top-flight interior OL in the KY/WV area and is at Huntington High presently. Could we see this kid migrate down south to play for a Kentucky High School? Well, you know anything is possible and very similar like moves have been before tried and successfully. Enjoy this feature.

Shannon Lofton came out of MS and led his Region I, Battle of the Region, team to the tournament championship. Region I has been gaining in both stature and prestige in that tournament as Region I high schools have been benefitting from the boost in talent being added to the roster each Fall. Shannon Lofton is a guy who should break out onto the high school scene for the Cardinals this year and in a big, big way. You will hear of him plenty this coming season. Enjoy the feature.

Zachary Philpot from North Laurel has all the characteristics and measurements any college coach would want in an offensive lineman coming out of high school. Philpot is 6’4,” 300-pounds, can bench press 335, squat 485, and deadlift 525. Philpot pops off 40-yard dashes in 5.5-seconds and blows through a “flying 10″ in 1.68. Philpot has 11” hands, a 4.2 GPA, and a registered 26 on his ACT. Translation, Philpot is a very low risk offer if you are a college program looking to add some bulk, strength, power, and explosiveness which will wow your admissions office. Dalton Maynard plays for one of the better programs in 5A in Kentucky. That is how a program attracts an over 250-game winner and a former TN COY recipient to its head coaching position. Maynard ain’t no slouch either. This guy played in 12-games at the 5A level as a sophomore and looks to be a multi-phase contributor, going forward into 2025. Ivan McGlone brought the Wing-T offense and stout defense to Russell High in 1976 and translated into 316-wins against 151-losses in 38 years with two KHSAA titles spaced 27-years apart. McGlone would win 344-games total, between his native West Virginia and our beloved Kentucky. A Dawahares KHSAA HOF inductee, McGlone his now wearing a different set of Wings than the wings which define the Wing-T offense. McGlone left behind a legacy of character, success, humor, guidance, and fidelity to his ideals, his family, his team, and his school. Enjoy this look back on an extraordinary life and career.

Manning has been doing a fine job developing talent colleges want to recruit and sign. Centre College, who has been red, smoking hot on the trail this offseason, stopped by Morton’s Gap to see a certain player on whom the Colonels have set its sights. We think we know who, but could be wrong. In any event, things are going swimmingly as the recruiting interest would certainly indicate.
