Greeneville, Kentucky has been described by one of our generation’s finest folk artists and song writers (John Prine) as “paradise.” We don’t know about that, but don’t dispute it, but we do know the Mustangs have some enviable, young talent to mix in with some big-time returners for the ’25 Fall season. One of those returners is Trever Hardesty who, we have been assured, will NOT come off the field next season. We have been highlighting versatility and utility pretty hard for over a year now. These are prized attributes, ask any football coach. We are telling you about players, coaches, and events which are such a rich part of the fabric of the KHSAA that these stories deserve to be told, these fanciful yarns deserve preservation. This is another of those today. Today, we are highlighting a guy who really played well as a sophomore finding the lineup for eight (8) of the team’s 11-games. What will he do as a junior? Quite a bit we wager.

Kris Hughes is a “Dude.” If you are unfamiliar with that term and its meaning, you need to read our book. There is a link at the bottom of his article. Hughes scored 29-TDs in multiple phases of the game in ’24 as a junior. He picked a pair of passes, housing one for a “pick-six.” He is also the 5th leading rusher and scorer in Somerset history and we are talking about one of the more accomplished histories in the KHSAA. What will he do for an encore? He just may win ’25’s Mr. Football, that’s what. One doesn’t get much more versatile than Fort Campbell’s JaCaryous “JP” Perryman. Last season, as a junior (’26), Perryman rushed for 603-yards, housed seven (7)-TDs rushing, completed 62-passes for 912-yards and 13-TDs, caught four (4) passes for 62-yards and a TD, housed eight two-pointers, registered 20-tackles, forced two fumbles, recovered one, and picked a pair of passes for 5-IRNYs. Say all of that three times really fast. The guy is a fantastic athlete who competes in multiple sports for his high school which competed at a high level a year ago in winning half its games. Ross Powers is a 5’7,” 190 pound football playing stud entering his senior year for the Hancock County Hornets. What did he do as a junior? George Radford was among the greatest the Trigg County Wildcats ever put on a gridiron, a baseball diamond, or even a hardwood court. He was also a college letterman in football, an accomplished student, who became a wonderful coach, teacher, administrator, and now a businessman and entrepreneur. This guy could do it all. One of our favorite songs used to proclaim loving “red necks, white sox, and blue ribbon beer.” The blue ribbon beer was a reference to Pabst Blue Ribbon, a famous brand of alcoholic beverage. We don’t know if the Pabst family who son is a stud ’27 football player in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky bears any type relation to the Pabst family from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Then again, we don’t know that they don’t. What we do know is Nathan Pabst is dad-burn good at football and he makes his team all the better when he contributes his considerable efforts. We selected BJ Evans to our Large School All-State Football Offense this past season as only a junior. Rushing for 1,799-yards on 194-carries, scoring 20-TDs and averaging 9.3-yards per carry against Lexington 6A competition will garner one some notice. What will Evans do for an encore?
