We started this journey we call Kentucky Prep Gridiron reporting mainly on middle school players. When our initial middle school stars matriculated to high school, we came with them. We don’t cover middle school football as much as we once did but we do cover it. Today, we report on a kid who may be the best 8th-grade QB in the commonwealth of Kentucky. He is darn sure athletic. He is darn sure well developed with room for quite a bit more anatomical development. I got a call one time from a kid who had signed with Princeton. Princeton, like Brown, is an Ivy League school, or the elite of the elite as this country has historically thought of the Ivy League. Well anyway this kid was voicing some displeasure about Princeton’s having a bad season. My response…”Are you kidding me, son? You’re going to Princeton. Who cares if you go 0-40 while there? You’re still getting a degree from Princeton.” You get the point. Football is a tool to a better life if you’re smart about it. Alexander Schuster looks to battle it out for a slot along the interior offensive line for Kentucky’s premier high school football program. It is hard to find the field for Trinity until your junior season no matter who you are. Schuster has worked his tail off and has bided his time. It is his day. Trinity is coming off a 13-2 season and yet another 6A KHSAA football title. All told, Trinity has won 29-championships and favored to make it 30. Schuster’s frame and growth potential are big pluses for him as he is our Big Ass Fans Kentucky Comfort Creator this week. Let’s keep it cool out there KY.

Bo Wolford is a bodacious, fine tactician at the offensive line slot. That is one heck of a compliment. He is also the KHSAA’s best interior guy blocking along any front competing at the high school level. We have followed this guy for years. Our admiration for him just continues to grow. Last year, as a junior, Bo-Bo was a first team All-Stater on the Big Ass Fans Small School team and a 2nd teamer on the Courier Journal squad. We believe he is the KHSAA’s best player at the position even though he is likely to slide out to tackle and play there this coming season. Enjoy this feature about one of our favorite players.

Chase Bell and Camden Page look to battle it out preseason for the QB-slot at South Warren vacated by Bryce Button’s graduation. South Warren is coming off a 12-2 season where it was arguably the second best team in 5A in ’24. Where will they figure into the 6A title chase? Well, we don’t know. We would suppose they will go as far as either Page or Bell carries them. Chase Bell is a ’28 guy with an incredible frame and athleticism so impressive Maryland has already offered. Bell’s frame and growth potential are carrying the day for him as he is our Big Ass Fans Kentucky Comfort Creator this week. Let’s keep it cool out there KY.

Dayton Kron is a talented kid who looks to land at the next level easily. Kron is being courted heavily by Hanover, Hampton-Syndney, and DePauw University, among others. One secret to his success is that the 6’1,” 225-pounder can play DE or can long snap. That type versatility is extremely important for a small college program who may find offering Kron is a “ton of bang for its buck.” In any event, Kron is performing at a very high level for a team which plays in Kentucky’s largest competitive classification. Christian Shackelford is built exactly like the “big boys” want to see him. He’s 6’7,” 290-pounds and sports a 3.8-GPA. Shackelford got six (6) games of run over his sophomore season and that isn’t too bad considering LCA had the most senior laden group of trench men in the KHSAA a year ago at any level of competition. There will be plenty of competition to fill some of these holes in ’25 resulting from the Spring ’24 commencement ceremonies. Enjoy this look at a ’27 who seems destined to grow into one of his graduating class’s very best offensive linemen before it is said and done. Calloway County High is under new direction in 2025. Coby Lewis has been brought in from off the Tilghman staff to resurrect the Laker football program. Lewis helped the “Blue Tornado” to a 15-0 mark and a 4A title a year ago and will look to build off his former head coaching experience he had at Trigg County before joining Sean Thompson’s staff in Paducah. Lewis is the right man for this job and he will not find the cupboard barren. Brayden Tupper is a stout young guy who has considerable power and strength stacked on his frame now, especially in light of his being a rising junior. Guys who bench press 290, pull 535, and clean 255 generally play around these parts. Enjoy this article about a young gun who should be on the field plenty this coming season.

Brayden Fultz is a player who reports quite a bit of versatility, particularly on the Kentucky 5A level. Fultz reports playing guard, DE, DT, MLB, and FB. Of these positions we like him best at either guard, where he reports playing, and offensive center, where we think he should get a long look. We have talked to some recruiters who have asked us about him. At 6’0,” 290 with a 315-pound bench press, a quarter ton back squat (505), and a 255-pound power clean, this kid has the strength, power, and explosion programs covet at the center slot.
