This week’s ‘Revolutionary Player’ may be Kentucky’s most highly decorated and recruited player in the ’22 class. If not the highest, he is certainly among them. He had a tremendous night against the Tigers of Hoptown in spite of his not playing as many snaps as opponents will like see from him in succeeding weeks. There is a QB in Kentucky who could win this award every week. QB is one which gets tons of attention owing to the nature of the position. We try not to award this to just the glory positions but we spread it around to the less glorious ones also. Every now and then a signal-caller has a night which just can’t be ignored. The night Polston had against the strongest program in the 3A Classification was such a night to us. Congratulations to Drew Polston and join us next week as we tee this up and do it all again. HB.

There is some precedence for this award being given to a coach and not a player. We have a distinct recollection of having done it one time prior to this, but even should our memory be faulty, it is high-time it happened. Quality coaching makes such a difference at the High School level of competition and The Storm has hired a great coach to help “coach-up” the QB-position, which is loaded this year (by the way) on The Storm’s ’21 roster. The Hoptown Tigers are LOADED! We had an agent at the Tigers scrimmage with Class 6A McCracken and they came away impressed. Their words reporting back to the office at the first of the week were, “These guys look all the way back to me…like mid-90s back!” That is saying quite a bit. It also means we likely had a serious omission from our preseason Top-5 in the 4A classification. However far the Tigers go this coming season, they will lean heavily on Daisjaun Mercer, this week’s award recipient for the reasons we have detailed herein. Friday night we have season openers so this is our last offseason award. It is all over but the crying now. Join us next week as we give this award to another worthy recipient. HB.

The Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Week Award is among the commonwealth’s oldest and most respected weekly awards. Of course, Mr. Football is the ultimate award for any high school player in Kentucky to win. It is a huge honor just to be in the running. This week’s Revolutionary Player has been named to the preseason “Watch List” for Mr. Football. That is quite an honor. So is winning this. An agent of the magazine was at this scrimmage which was “Meet the Cougars” night at Letcher Central. The Cougars got to meet one of Breathitt’s more potent offensive weapons for the ’21 season in Isaac “Wheels” Turner. Turner was scintillating in this scrimmage and gave a foreshadowing of what kind of threat he poses opposing defenses on the schedule in ’21. Ashton Adams reminds us of a guy who won this prestigious award for his play in ’20, Breathitt’s Lane Weddle. Adams adds so much production and value to his roster and lineup. This week’s “Revolutionary Player of the Week” is St. Xavier’s Micah Carter. The 6-5, 250-pounder is one of Kentucky’s very best at his position in either the ’23 class or any other. He already has an impressive list of offers and won the Defensive MVP of the EKU Big Man Challenge this past Saturday. We were pleased to attend the Eastern Kentucky University Seven on Seven and Big Man Challenge this past Saturday in Richmond, Kentucky. We were so thrilled to get to attend we sent two guys as Fletcher Long and I rode together. We are awarding the OL MVP this award today and this Friday the Defensive MVP will be the “Revolutionary Player of the Week” for Independence Bank. The event was worthy of sweeping the weekly awards.
