@AGLOADING26 (Austin Gough) from Owensboro (Senior) snags D-I offer…

There is no way in the world this surprised anyone. I mean, if you were shocked SEMO swooped in and offered Kentucky’s premier linebacker in the graduating class of 2021 then just how deep in the sand have you been sticking your head?

Gough is a kid the playing virtues of whom KPGFootball has been extolling since he doubled for Team Kentucky at both LBer and RB. Remember this particular Team Kentuckian was the Offensive-MVP of the Kentucky-Tennessee Future Stars Game in 2016 in Clarksville, Tennessee in Fortera Stadium.

Since going to high school, Gough, who started immediately as a 9th-grader at MLB for the Red Devils, hasn’t disappointed. Austin led his team in tackles his freshman season and made the KPGFootball Freshman All-State team. His sophomore year, he set the Owensboro High School all-time record for tackles in a season, made the KPGFootball All-State Sophomore team, and the AP’s All-State First-Team at LBer. He was one of only two sophomores to do so that year (2018).

Gough’s junior year was largely derailed by a freakish injury where he broke his femur running into a down marker during the team’s second scrimmage. He made it back for the last regular season game and the playoff run and still managed to make the AP’s All-State Second-Team at LBer in spite of missing almost the entire year (2019).

Truth be told, Gough is offered during his junior season if he had gotten one. Had he been he would have been among the first in his class to get offered D-I. This would have been appropriate as he is among his class’s best players regardless of position.

Remember, the recruiting game is a race where only the destination matters. Whether you get there as an eighth grader or as a late-add on the eve of National Signing Day, the destination is the same.

We have been saying for years (literally) Austin Gough is a Division-I caliber college football player. A very clever, knowledgeable, and top-flight Division-I staff in Cape Girardeau, Missouri decided to endorse our opinion of Gough yesterday evening.

It neither doesn’t nor shouldn’t matter that we had that opinion of the young man all along. Welcome to the party D-I. We left the light on for you!
