Get the ball to (Mikey) Hager @fb_phs, @PikevilleHSFB, @hagermikey0, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @eCampusdotcom, @KatherineL58069, @bigassfans

’26 WR/DB with the 35-inch vertical and the 4.55 second 40 needs more targets

Mikey Hager’s Pikeville team, after beating Powell County (3A) last night, are 3-3 on the year with games against Southwestern (5A), Paintsville, Hazard, and Bracken County still upcoming. What that means is Pikeville is still very much in the 1A title chase as its consensus top-five (5), 1A poll ranking certainly attests. As the Panthers go forward, it would seem to us Pikeville needs to make sure it is targeting its senior WR, Mikey Hager, sufficiently. Why? Because it works, the opponents around the KHSAA can’t check him, and targeting Hager has worked so far against teams either as good or better than what remains on the schedule going forward from here.

Pikeville, KY: The Panthers have just beaten a 3A football team in Powell County last night, 56-0. Powell County entered the game with Pikeville with a 2-2 record. The victory evened up Pikeville’s worksheet at 3-3 and took some of the bad taste out of Panther mouths after getting boat-raced by cross-county Belfry last week, 41-3.

Getting clocked by Belfry doesn’t mean the Panthers are out of the 1A race. Far from it. Clocking Powell proved that together with many other things from this season like besting Raceland in Pikeville on September 5th.

Pikeville has lost lopsided games to Belfry in the past and still challenged for its classification’s championship. It can do it again this year.

There is one thing we recommend the Panthers do going forward. We strenuously recommend the Panthers find ways to get the ball to its 6’0,” 185-pound playmaker, three-phase contributor. If it were we, in rout to play the closing stretch upcoming, we would find ways to get the ball to Mikey Hager; but, then again, what do we know?

Hager has been getting it done for his team so far this season. Coming into last night’s game, as the stats against Powell County have yet to be published as of the posting of this article, Hager has registered 28-receptions in five games on offense for 314-yards and four (4)-TDs.

Hager had 12-receptions for 130-yards and a TD against Johnson Central, a 6-0 4A team

We generally put a ton of stock on what players do against the best teams they face. Hager had a huge night against Johnson Central (6-0), a team we believe has a shot at winning the 4A title this season and which overcame a very game and spry Boyd County (4-2) squad last night, 21-14, to open its district play. Against the Eagles, Hager had 12-receptions for 130-yards receiving and a TD.

If Johnson Central (6-0, 4A) couldn’t contain Hager, what chance did Powell County, or anyone else on the schedule to date (for that matter), really have? It is a fair question.

Hager entered last night’s game leading the team in scoring, leading the team in interceptions, leading the team in interception return net yards (IRNYs), and leading the team in “pick-sixes.”

That seems to be a ton of leading. Hager has played well on defense, and on special teams, similar to Hager’s excellent play on offense.

Hager entered the game, last night, with 22-tackles and a bevy of passes broken up (PBUs) from his DB slot. That doesn’t factor in his contributions to the coverage and return units on special teams.

To quote the late Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, if you look at Hager’s physical characteristics, both Hager’s production and value are “Elementary, my dear Dr. Watson.”

Hager runs the 40-yard dash in 4.55-seconds. Hager has a 35-inch standing vertical. Hager squats 345-pounds. Hager power cleans 240-pounds.

If you have any other WRs on the roster with that power, speed, vertical explosion, and twitch who are built like linebackers throw it to them. Otherwise, lets get that ball to Mikey Hager and let him do his thing.

That is our take anyway. Like I said, what the heck do we know?
