We have worked on this compilation of “greats” for months…
Some of these guys were great head football coaches and a few of them were “career assistants.” To the extent their natural lives permitted (for the most part) all of these guys were what we would term “lifers.” These men, here, moved the needle. As much as any coaches in the history of the KHSAA, these guys changed the game and for its decided betterment. A lot of these guys are enshrined presently. Perhaps (arguably) they all should be. Some of these guys, not presently enshrined, almost assuredly will be in the near future. “Football people” persuaded us to write these articles. Each name is linked to its feature. This has got to be a book at some point.
HB Lyon, Scouting Director, “KPGFootball”

This work, featuring 77 coaches in 72 combined articles, may be the most comprehensive work ever undertaken on the topic of KHSAA football in the history of Kentucky. It is inconceivable to me this book, or compilation, hasn’t before been either written or published in some forum or another.
If you are a “professional football coach” in the commonwealth of Kentucky, all 72 of these articles should be required reading. There are some wonderful lessons here if you are either sufficiently industrious or studious enough to care. If you don’t care, you are in the wrong line of work.
These guys, to a man, believed and embodied traits like integrity, hard work trumping talent when that talent didn’t work hard (Tim Notke), doing things the “right way,” and drilling into both players and programs the fundamentals of the game and the fundamentals of life. Along the way these coaches developed champions. Along the way their players developed into men. Along the way these “men” became the type of men to whom we look to lead us.
These coaches built leaders, built winners. These coaches developed men of character. These coaches built football players, replete with every positive connotation that term can possibly hold.
Enjoy these articles. Enjoy these features. They were undertaken, selected, contributed to, and written by men. Men who love this game. Men committed to the game’s continued success, continued prosperity.
