We have featured quite a few McLean County Cougars through the years. There is a reason for this…they are A’s second-district. The Cougars had an uncharacteristic 4-6 year in ’21 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a while. Guys like this week’s feature will insure that will not turn into a trend. This week’s recipient, Zach Clayton, and his cohorts at McLean County High School had a bad night against Owensboro Catholic. Lots of Western Kentucky, Class 2A football teams can make the same claim. However, this Clayton guy has been playing really well all season as have a few of his teammates. Enjoy this look at another player who provides excellent value to the team’s bottom line. Sort of sounds like Independence Bank now doesn’t it? HB.
On the eve of opening the season, we decided to go back and award a former recipient of this same award. Andrew Munster was first awarded the Revolutionary Player of the Week by Independence Bank on January 26, 2019. With his recent selection to the “Herald-Leader Hundred” we thought now would be a good time to give the distinction to him a second time. McLean County High School had an incredible run in 2019. First, they got past Owensboro Catholic to win the district and they got to play State Champion Somerset in the Regional Championship Game. One of the guys on whom they most had to rely will be back in 2020. This week’s Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Week is McLean County’s Connor Baldwin. Zach Wagner runs one of the very high achieving football programs in Kentucky’s Class 2A, particularly on the western end of Kentucky. The Cougars run the Wing-T with a precision which makes its gaining ground on opponents a “given.” The turn-around this year, from 0-3 to the Regional Championship game, was particularly masterful. Congratulations to Cody Wilson for being this week’s Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Week. This is a OL/DL player who only played in two games a year ago, but hey, give him a break, he was only a freshman. We believe he will see the field much more frequently in 2019.
