There is no better time than the present to anoint another Independence Bank player of the week. Independence Bank is proud to sponsor a weekly article highlighting players in the areas where Independence Bank flourishes who embody the same type of revolutionary service to their respective football teams which has made Independence Bank unique and special in the banking industry.

Livermore Branch

Independence Bank has a goal of achieving everyday excellence, and this week we are focusing on a player whose performance exceeded both the McLean County High School and the Calhoun community’s expectations. We are focusing on one of the more valuable rising seniors to any one particular team’s chances this coming Fall, Class of ’23 FB/DE, Lucas Mauzy from Calhoun’s McLean County High.

Mauzy‘s McLean County High School is just 7.9 miles down KY 136 East from one of the finer branches in the Independence Bank family. The Livermore Branch (pictured above right) is located on 614 Henton Street, Livermore, KY 42352

Mauzy has demonstrated a set of skills, by virtue of his deployment on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football, not commonly seen. He is fast and athletic enough to play in the offensive backfield and lead the team in rushing yards, carries, rushing TDs, and scoring. He is big, athletic, and explosive enough to get upfield and apply pressure to opposing passers from his DE post where he likewise has the heft to hold point and defend the rush.

As we said, that is quite a mouthful of skills. Last year, from fullback, Mauzy gained 584-yards in 131-rushing attempts and scored 14-rushing TDs. Defensively, he was among the leaders in TFLs (four) and QB-sacks (one and a half).

These are considerable contributions to the team’s success both scoring points and stopping the other team from scoring points. Mauzy will have to find a way to do even more of the same to assist Coach Wagner’s Cougars in climbing back on top the 2nd-District heap in ’22, a position this program is more accustomed to occupying.

Congratulations to Lucas Mauzy, Class of ’23, for his Revolutionary Play which has earned him this week’s recognition from the fastest growing bank in the Commonwealth of Kentucky…your friends at Independence Bank.
