KPGFootball’s Preseason Top-Five (3A) @bigassfans, @minguabeefjerky, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball

June 19, 2025 Fletcher Long 1

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 3A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.

Slow Motion Replay: Mark Dixon from Perry County Central is Integrity Personified @PCCHSFootball, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans

Mark Dixon is among the best coaches still coaching today in the KHSAA. He is only two wins from 200 and has a title with three other trips to the title game under his belt already. He is entering his 23rd season at the helm of a football team and has won 71% of the games he has coached. Of course, what would you expect from Bill Dixon’s nephew and a former SEC college baseball player for the Ole Miss Rebels. Enjoy him while you can because his kind doesn’t come around too often.

Slow Motion Replay: Justin Haddix, whether playing or coaching, is just a freaking winner! @CoachHaddix11, @BCRebelFootball, @BreathittFb, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @CountyMustangs, @KyHighFootball, @kyhighs, @khsaafootball

Justin Haddix is a mountain legend. Much like Jay Cobb at Trinity, people from outside the mountains tend to forget from where Justin Haddix comes. The important thing is the former WKU QB-ing great hasn’t forgotten. As the Appalachians would be proud to claim, “Justin is one of ours.” Haddix has had a Hall of Fame run both as a player and coach. He still talks with the great Mike Holcomb regularly and the two of them run a QB camp together which convened on Joe MacDaniel field at Andy Frye stadium a year ago. Enjoy this look at a guy who, like Mark Spader, is a future Hall of Famer.

Friday Night Fletch.

Christian Larkey, ’24 RB, FS, WR, is the @minguabeefjerky Protein-packed Performer of the Week. @1776Bank @HopkinsCentral @_CoachManning @ChristianLarkey @coachlarkey11 @MaxPreps @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball @kyhighs @HLpreps @RockHardFB

Christian Larkey is fortunate enough to be born into one of the first names in Kentucky high school football. That shouldn’t (and doesn’t to us) take away from his own prowess and success he has had playing the game his family has loved and steered all these many years. Enjoy this feature about this very fine junior RB, FS, WR and don’t forget to #Savortheflavor. FL

Blake Mullins, class of ’27, Rockcastle County ready to go to work restoring “The Rock” to prominence… @abmullins @JBRowe1 @JoshBreslowTV @minguabeefjerky @PrepSpin @1776Bank @KyHighFootball @kyhighs @HLPreps @MaxPreps

Chris Larkey walks the sidelines at the same school his dad, Tom, developed into a consistent contender who teams often dreaded playing in the day. The boys from the Rock are always hard, with apologies to Easy E. Enjoy this look at the type talent which generally reverses varsity programs’ fortunes. Also, learn a little something about getting recruited and the type information colleges want to see warehoused on your social media sites like Twitter. HB.

Breakout Player: Caleb Moore, Class of ’24, believes he should be given The Rock! @minguabeefjerky @1776Bank @RockHardFB @coachlarkey11 @MaxPreps @PrepSpin @KyHighFootball

Today we feature a kid who showed flashes of brilliance a year ago. Caleb Moore showed a dangerous burst, particularly on kick returns, and the Rock could stand a lot more of that type effort this coming season. If The Rock is to resurrect to its former glory it had under “the other Coach Larkey,” players like Moore will be called upon to “Breakout.” Enjoy the feature. HB.

Class of 2020 Noah Canady from Perry County Central

May 14, 2018 Fletcher Long 0

We here at KPGFootball have been effusive in our praise of high school strength & conditioning programs and the impact it can have on your football team’s play. Well, it would appear new coach Ovie Canady at Perry County Central High School in Hazard, Kentucky would agree. He is an […]
