We are just a few days from coming out of the abyss we affectionately know as “The Dead Period.” The season lies in wait for us on the other side. One thing we do offseason is inform readers about some of the stars coming out of middle school who figure to contribute right off the bat. Jaxon French is certainly a ’29 we could see working himself into the lineup early. He is 6’3,” 200-pounds and clips off 40-yards in the 4.5s. He is so good in the weight room he is called the “Iron Giant.” He is such a rarity as an athlete he is also nicknamed the “White Rhino.” Regardless of what you call him, if you’re calling football games at St. Xavier this Fall, you will be calling out his name sooner or later. Tripp Setliff is a guy we saw quite a bit from on the Future Stars circuit. He played on the KY Future Stars team in seventh and eighth grade. He is a hulking interior guy who has done quite a bit of work on his feet, speed, spacial quicks, and explosion. He is rounding into a top-flight interior OL in the KY/WV area and is at Huntington High presently. Could we see this kid migrate down south to play for a Kentucky High School? Well, you know anything is possible and very similar like moves have been before tried and successfully. Enjoy this feature.

Montrel Campbell from Ballard High is as good as it gets in Kentucky’s ’24 class at the defensive 3rd level. He has the tools to play on offense too, and college may decide to utilize him that way. Marquezz Hightower is following in some mighty large footsteps. He had a relative who was an all-state football player for Madisonville North-Hopkins, led Kentucky in rushing yards his senior year, was a Kentucky Future Star MVP (like Marquezz), and went on to play for EKU. What will Marquezz do? Well, we don’t exactly know for sure but, for right now, he is running the heck out of that pill for the Maroons. Enjoy the feature. HB.
