We were watching Breathitt and Hazard play last Friday night on the Bluegrass Sports Nation. What stood out to us was the intricate way in which Coach Chandler and his crew utilized screens to chunk off yardage. There was one screen in particular where the ball was rifled to Gavin Johnson and he ran away from Breathitt’s back-third like they were being run in a plowed field. Talk about your “separation speed,” Johnson was showing it off and then some. The fact of the matter, as we approach mid-season, Gavin Johnson has amply demonstrated his being as good a multi-phase athlete as there is anywhere in Kentucky at the small school level (1A, 2A, and 3A). This kid will have to be discussed heading into next year as a possible “Mr. Football” candidate or my name isn’t “Friday Night Fletch.” We all know it is…

We believe the Hazard Bulldogs are well positioned to do something very special this season. We have crunched the numbers, studied the data, prepared ourselves diligently to tell you the following: The Bulldogs just might take this thing this year and we are going to be there to cover it. Enjoy this trip with us as well travel through the ’25 season and let’s just see where this trek ends. Our best guess…Lexington, KY. It will be quit a ride.

The Dog Pound: Could Hazard be even better than we forecasted a couple months ago? @minguabeefjerky, @coach_chandler, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @Gjohnson1418,

We almost never know what to make of transfers. It seems, more and more, teams are picking up transfers and it becomes difficult to track. Our policy has always been not to comment on transfers until the young men have been cleared to play. Well, the Hazard Bulldogs picked up three huge transfers and all three have been cleared for play. What does it all mean. Hazard already boasts one of the finest and more talented rosters in the KHSAA 1A classification. Well, we think it means Hazard may be even better than we predicted in June. Enjoy the article.

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 1A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.

Max Pelfry has been “keeping it cool” around Kentucky for almost as long as Big Ass Fans. This guy has been among the best players at his position since his middle school All-Star days. His high school career has been everything we thought it would be and he would make an excellent “take” for a small college program looking to take on a next-level QB with all the skills. Enjoy the feature and let’s keep it cool out there Kentucky!

Chances the Bulldogs ever suffer through another year as perplexing as 2023? Not likely, with Gavin Johnson in the lineup- @Gjohnson1418 @coach_chandler @minguabeefjerky @1776Bank @840WHAS

Football is just different in the Appalachia Mountains. First of all, football is the primary sport in that part of Kentucky and doesn’t pay “second fiddle” to basketball. They also routinely produce Gavin Johnson types who are ready to contribute early in their careers. Enjoy this feature about one of Kentucky’s better ’27 prospects. Friday Night Fletch.
