June 20, 2025 Fletcher Long 1

It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We had done this for all six (6) classifications as this is our sixth such article posted and published. We hope you enjoyed this series. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 4A. Thanks for reading us.

Slow Motion Replay: The Pride of Haggerhill, Kentucky, Jim Matney @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @bigassfans, @minguabeefjerky, @jcfootball2025, @TTChilders, @ChrisStapleton, @JRVanHoose

Jim Matney was simply among the best high school football and wrestling coaches the Appalachias has ever produced. I had the privilege of getting to interact with him on several occasions as a newspaper editor of a 135 or more year old newspaper in Jackson, KY. Matney always made me feel like I was a big shot. Of course, I was sort of a big shot because I was hanging around him. Enjoy this look at an all-timer in the estimation of just about everyone.

Slow Motion Replay: Mark Dixon from Perry County Central is Integrity Personified @PCCHSFootball, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans

Mark Dixon is among the best coaches still coaching today in the KHSAA. He is only two wins from 200 and has a title with three other trips to the title game under his belt already. He is entering his 23rd season at the helm of a football team and has won 71% of the games he has coached. Of course, what would you expect from Bill Dixon’s nephew and a former SEC college baseball player for the Ole Miss Rebels. Enjoy him while you can because his kind doesn’t come around too often.

Aaron ‘AD’ Johnson, from Perry County Central, is the Mingua Beef Jerky Protein-packed Performer of the Week @minguabeefjerky @bigassfans, @KyHighFootball, @PCCHSFootball, @kyhssportszone

Aaron David Johnson, or “AD” as he is called around Perry County Central circles has been making some real, off-season strides. He is getting taller, getting thicker, getting stronger exhibiting more arm-strength, and getting much, much faster. This kid has got the home folks around Hazard, Kentucky going plumb crazy. We believe this kid, coming off a solid junior year under center, is poised to have quite the senior season. Together with “little brother” Bryson Johnson (“Mr. B”), these two have the Commodores from Perry County Central trending in an upward trajectory. Enjoy this feature and don’t forget to pick up a few bags of some of the world’s finest beef jerky products. #SavorTheFlavor out there in Perry County, KY.

Slow Motion Replay: Justin Haddix, whether playing or coaching, is just a freaking winner! @CoachHaddix11, @BCRebelFootball, @BreathittFb, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @CountyMustangs, @KyHighFootball, @kyhighs, @khsaafootball

Justin Haddix is a mountain legend. Much like Jay Cobb at Trinity, people from outside the mountains tend to forget from where Justin Haddix comes. The important thing is the former WKU QB-ing great hasn’t forgotten. As the Appalachians would be proud to claim, “Justin is one of ours.” Haddix has had a Hall of Fame run both as a player and coach. He still talks with the great Mike Holcomb regularly and the two of them run a QB camp together which convened on Joe MacDaniel field at Andy Frye stadium a year ago. Enjoy this look at a guy who, like Mark Spader, is a future Hall of Famer.

There is a characteristic in life called being a winner. It is a hard characteristic to define but one we spot pretty well when we are seeing it. AD Johnson is a winner. All in all, if I am going into battle, having a “winner” at the helm of my attack; well, I will take that every time. Enjoy the feature.

Sometimes we get excited about an article and decide to publish it early. This next article is one which usually runs on Wednesdays but we are running it on Tuesday afternoon. Enjoy this look at a freshman linebacker so good he made the Big Ass Fans, Large School All-State defense this season. No telling what the future holds for this prospect. Meet Bryan Jones, the King of Leitchfield, KY @bigassfans @sfitz_840whas @840WHAS @KyHighFootball @minguabeefjerky @GCHSCougarFB

October 1, 2024 Fletcher Long 0

Bryan Jones is among the hottest young coaches in the industry Kentucky-wide. He has his Cougars playing football at an incredibly high level and looking every bit like 5A threats coming down the season’s home stretch. Enjoy this look at another one of those coaches sure to get plenty of air time this offseason as programs will jockey for coaches.

Mr. B with the fantastic opener, rockets to the top of the linebacker list @PCCHSFootball, @NoahCreigh, @WYMT @KyHighFootball, @sfitz_840whas, @840WHAS, @AlPopsFootball

August 27, 2024 Fletcher Long 0

We called him the best middle school football player in Kentucky last season. If the opener is an indication, we couldn’t have been any more on the money than we were with Bryson “Mr. B.” Johnson. Johnson had 16-tackles, 1.5-TFLs in the opener against a really good Somerset squad. While Perry County Central fans would have much preferred a different outcome, they still were enthused about the play of the young, freshman, LB.

Who wins 4A? Better find a storm shelter, a Blue Tornado looks like it is on the way! @pths_football, @BCRebelFootball, @FootballJCHS, @Tomcat_football, @CovCathFootball, @PCCHSFootball, @AlPopsFootball, @minguabeefjerky, @840WHAS, @sfitz_840whas

Surely, Boyle County can’t win 4A every year. They are coming off a four-peat looking to five-peat and they have a very good chance. However, there is a leviathan building on the western-end of Kentucky and it is hungry and ready to be let loose. Enjoy this look at 4A. Friday Night Fletch.
