Like we have done in prior seasons, now the games are finally here, we will take the last week’s action and break it down and then look at the road ahead. We had a slight misstep on the road at Fort Campbell this past Friday night and return home to face one of the best 1A teams in the commonwealth of Kentucky, Kentucky Country Day from Louisville. Mike Yeagle was as fine a football coach as the KHSAA has ever known. He coached football for 15-years, winning 183-games and losing a scant 27-times. Yeagle took over a Beechwood team which had one title prior to his being hired (1984) and turned the same Tiger squad into the KHSAA team of the 90s (7-titles in 10-years). At the end of the day, we have no idea how many titles nor games he might have won had he not retired when he did nor passed when he did. Sixty-two years old is mighty young to be passing on to your reward. Still, the Lord takes us when He is ready for us and when He thinks we have our best chance of redemption. In the end, Yeagle is missed and will never be fully replaced. Enjoy this feature.

JJ Austin is a workhorse for one of Kentucky’s premier programs. He leads the team in rushing, and rushing the football is what the Pirates do best. JJ is also more than a token defender. What will he do in ’25, as a senior? One might say he is “in the lead” to represent the “Big Ass Fans” Small School All-State Football Offense at FB/LB in 2025. It is still early. Waylon Abner is a member of one of the best units playing Kentucky football at the HS level, the “Big Blue Wave.” The “Big Blue Wave” is the OL for the Breathitt Bobcats. Sawyer Hall gets the majority of press but perhaps some of us might want to watch Waylon Abner. Abner is a ferocious pulling guard who may be the best at that discipline than any other guard or interior guy in the KHSAA. Enjoy the feature. Friday Night Fletch.
