Storm Warning: Central gets back on track with fruitful trip to Todd County; braces for visit from North Hopkins @LasatersCoffee, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @HopkinsCentral, @_CoachManning

Storm Warning

Big performances across the board led the team to a big win!

You can count on this…whenever Central and North play, regardless of where the game will be played, there will be hard feelings and tough, tough moments on both sidelines and on the field of play. North is coming into the game riding high, having routed Union County and 6A Hopkinsville in consecutive weekends. Central lost its opener to Caldwell in a game much closer than the ten point margin and rebounds nicely to get it done, in Elkton, KY, against Todd County Central. Friday night will be a huge game for Central and presents a tremendous opportunity.

Morton’s Gap, KY: We just don’t know what more can be said about the play of senior, Sylas Gunn, this season other than he just keeps finding ways to contribute and lead his team to an optimal performance. Gunn has been throwing, rushing, and defending his way up recruiting boards all over the commonwealth of Kentucky.

Gunn is a versatile skill set which is polished and poised. He will make a fine collegian wherever he lands. Gunn is a fantastic high school football player seemingly without peer for what is asked of him.

Gunn (’26) threw for 79-yards and rushed for 154-yards and a pair of TDs on 10-rushing attempts against the Todd County Rebels on Friday night. Gunn scored 18-points on 2-rushing TDs and a housed punt. Imagine; this kid is leading the offense, leading the defense, and housing punts on special teams. Three phase utility and even, dare we say, stardom is something not often appreciated by casual fans.

What more can Gunn do for us? Can we make Gunn a coach on top of it all?

Dallas Kinlaw, a ’28 prospect who has been playing really well of late, gained 41-yards and scored a TD amongst his seven (7) rushing attempts. We can’t speak for you, the reader, but we’ll take close to six (6) yards a carry anywhere we can find it.

Gunn had 10-tackles on defense (Imagine that). Gunn also had some help on that side of the ball worthy of notation. Jeremiah Groves (’26) had 12-tackles, a-TFL, and a QB-sack. Isaac McKnight (’27) had 8-tackles, 2-TFLs, and caught a pair of passes for 48-yards.

There is a theme here. Lots of two way, and even three phase deployment, occuring on Morton’s Gap this season.

Now, let's turn our attention to Madisonville North Hopkins and its planned invasion...

Next up is North Hopkins. The Maroons are coming off a 41-19 pasting of the Hoptown Tigers.

Alex Richards is shaping up nicely under the direction of recently retained, QB-guru, Mike Evans. Richards completed seven (7) of his 11 passing attempts including a TD.

Markezz Hightower (’26 RB/LB), our favorite for Mr. Football, had 18-carries for 231-yards and 4-TDs. Hightower also caught three (3)-passes for 33-yards while scoring 24 of the team’s 42-points. Noah Mayes (’26) converted all six of his PATs.

Those PATs often decide games. Don’t ever take them for granted!

One guy who has been causing all types of “match-up” issues for defenses has been Jayden Travis. Travis has been among the team’s more reliable downfield targets working against the 2nd level and has been instrumental as the sixth offensive lineman on a very accomplished unit.

Madisonville is big upfront and very athletic. Here are some of the stars on whom the offense has been leaning: 27′ Kadence Price (’27) 6’2,” 265-pounds; Marvin Robert (’27) 6’4,” 285-pounds; Brody Hall (’27) 6’3,” 250-pounds; Gage Kinney(’27) 6’0,” 250-pounds; Kaden Vickery (’26), 6’1,” 280-pounds; and Boyd Dever(’28) 6’6,” 290-pounds.

Madisonville is 2-0 coming into the game and coming off a fairly thorough thrashing of both ’24 3A finalist Union County and traditionally strong, 6A power, Hopkinsville High.

To play with North, Central will need to be hitting on all cylinders

Friday Night Fletch

To say Central is “stepping up” in competition from last week to this is understated. As soon as North Hopkins comes off the bus, the casual fan on Morton’s Gap will know this ain’t Todd County.

North is a 5A team with excellent size, tradition, and talent. They will “look the part. The “Mops on Top” will pass the “eye-ball test.”

The fact of the matter is the Storm will need you if they are to overcome what is a bigger school with more athletes from which to put together a team. Remember, any time two teams hit a playing field, either one can emerge the winner. Look at Owensboro Catholic’s beating defending 5A champion, Bowling Green, and then Owensboro (Senior High), another 5A power, the very next week.

The team has to show up. So do the fans!
