Picking the second round…Here are our thoughts!

Boy and girls, it is now getting really real. We are playing for district championships Friday night. If it is anything like round-one, where we saw two 4-seeds upend 1-seeds just in the 4A classification, you can bet your bottom dollar we will see some upsets.

We are going to forecast winners here. We hope we get some wrong because we cheer for underdogs about as much as the next guy. However, here is how we see the second round shaking out…

Class 1A;

KCD in action

Bishop Brossart over Nicholas County;

Crittenden County over Russellville;

KCD over Eminence;

Newport Central Catholic over Ludlow;

Pikeville dismantles Hazard;

Williamsburg dismantles Pineville;

Class 2A;

Beechwood all over Lloyd Memorial;

Breathitt vs. Leslie, always a big game

Breathitt over Leslie;

Edmonson over Metcalfe;

Owensboro Catholic in a bit of an upset over Hancock County;

Lexington Christian ends Somerset’s defense of its title;

Walton-Verona over Carroll County;

We like Murray High over Mayfield in another upset;

West Carter should handle Shelby Valley;

Class 3A;

Ashland Blazer over Russell;

Elizabethtown over Bardstown but careful here E-Town;

Fleming County will smoke Pendleton;

We will take CAL in a bit of an upset over Mercer County though this is an evenly matched football game;

We like “the Rock” to upend Bell County. This game is a “pick ’em,” like the one before it and could go either way;

Taylor County over Glasgow;

We’ll take Paducah’s “Blue Tornado” to upset Union County (don’t believe Union beats them twice);

Class 4A;

Two programs who generally don’t see this game. We like ACS over Warren East;

Boyle County over Lexington Catholic;

Central is mighty good, then again so is Fred Farrier and the Flyers from Franklin County. Maybe the best game at this level. We think the Flyers get by but barely;

Corbin will absolutely run Knox Central off the field. Ethan Mills has had quite a career as a high school running-back for Knox Central.

Those boys from E-Town, KY can flat out ball. We’ll take John Hardin over Spencer County;

Letcher County Central has had a great season and has a really fine ball club. Unfortunately, they find themselves contending with the classification’s bully. Johnson Central will run them clear out of Johnson County.

Don’t ask us why, but we see Hopkinsville turning around the 31-7 they suffered to Logan County during the regular season. This is a good Logan squad but Hopkinsville has so many athletes at its disposal. We are picking the “Jimmies and Joes” over the “X’s and O’s.” Hoptown survives!

Man, Boyd County isn’t even supposed to be here…Rowan County will show them why that is so…Rowan County wins convincingly, good-night, Cinderella, the balls over for you.

Class 5A;

Covington Catholic

Covington Catholic over Highlands;

Fairdale over Bullitt Central;

Woodford County in an upset over Madison Southern;

South Oldham over North Bullitt;

Owensboro (Senior) High wins by as many as it wants;

Pulaski County knocks off Southwestern;

Freddy Douglass takes out Scott County in a mild upset;

BG upsets South Warrren;

Class 6A;

We look for Oldham County to knock-off Bryan Station;

St. Xavier ends DuPont Manual’s season;

McCracken County upsets Henderson;

Male over Bullitt East;

North Hardin murders Meade County;

Dunbar over Henry Clay;

Dixie Heights upsets Ryle;

Trinity beats Louisville Eastern by a hundred should they choose.

There you go subscribers, there is the entire second-round picked for you. Now lets just get to Friday night safely, and see how it all proceeds!
