@Peyton_Ledford from @Flyer_Football, starting to set the pace among the 2023’s at LB

As much as this online magazine tries (in earnest) to catalog the elite football talent in Kentucky by graduating class, when we miss; sometimes, we really miss. We have before told the story of missing a sophomore RB one year, on our inaugural KPGFootball Sophomore All-State team, who had run for just over 2,000-yards from scrimmage with 29-rushing TDs.

Well, it certainly appears we missed on a freshman All-State LB who has a better frame, build, and numbers than any of the Freshmen LB’s we recognized. All we can say to this kid is play like you did this year and our Sophomore selection committee won’t miss you next season.

Just another example of how hard putting together a flawless team really is. It just can’t be done.

How good was Peyton Ledford last year as a freshman? Well, here are his highlights. If those don’t tell you, there is probably little we can add. Doesn’t mean we won’t try.

Ledford, the son of a football coach, had 135-tackles (64 solos, second on the team behind only All-Stater Brady Holleran) and also contributed 11.5 TFLs, 1.5 QB-sacks, 3FFs, and 1 FR in 2019. He’s listed (and we hear legitimately) at 6-2, 225-pounds and is clipping along at a 4.9-second pace in the forty. He played MLB for one of the better teams in the 4A classification (11-1), who lost in the second round to a Louisville Central team coming off a 3A State Championship in 2018 (pre-realignment) which made it all the way to the Semis in 2019 up a classification.

Based off of what we have seen and our well-placed sources from around the Commonwealth, we believe this kid has shot up to the very top of our list for 2023 linebackers. That makes his omission from our Freshman All-State team in 2019 all the worse.

What can we say? We’re sorry.
