Just the Facts, Playoff Edition

There was a detective one time on a popular television series turned into a movie. The show was “Dragnet” and the character was Joe Friday.

The character would arrive at a crime scene and start interviewing a witness when the witness, excited, would start getting off track and providing “filler” information Detective Friday didn’t find particularly germane. He would then, and this became his famous catch-phrase, say, “Just the facts, Ma’am (or Sir, as the situation would dictate).”

We have given you KPGFootball’s “weekly winners” all year long. We have picked at a nearly 80% rate of accuracy, all season. If we haven’t convinced you we are the most knowledgeable media members on the topic of Kentucky High School football in the game today, we just don’t know what else we need to show you.

This week, the first week of the playoffs, we are going to give you the winner in every match-up to be played November 7th or 8th, 2019.

We will spare you all but just some minimal commentary and give you the winners of the respective games. This week, you’re all a bunch of Joe Fridays, and we are going to give you (for the most part) “Just the Facts…”

These are first round, KHSAA, playoff winners for the games to be played November 7th and 8th, 2019.

November 7, 2019 (Thursday)…

Belfry over Floyd Central; and

Breathitt over Knott County Central.

November 8, 2019 (Friday)…

Scott over Rowan;

Walton-Verona over Gallatin County;

Glasgow over Adair;

Crittenden County over Caverna;

Warren East over ACS; This should be a real battle as these two teams are ranked close to exactly the same. Allen County-Scottsville has come on later in the year but we like Warren East in the one.

Covington Catholic over Cooper;

Monroe over Clinton;

Trigg over Union; Probably would have picked Union County prior to Trigg’s battling Caldwell County a week ago, losing by only two points. It would appear Cam Jordan, the Naval Academy commitment, is full healed so look for Trigg to be a tough game. They have the talent to beat anyone and All-State candidate Cade Bleidt looks good in the offensive backfield at RB.

Hoptown over Calloway; This one will be as ugly as the Tigers want it to be.

South Warren over Greenwood;

Madisonville-North Hopkins over Logan; We hear Tyler Ezell for Logan is out with injury. Were he 100% this game could go either way. Without him, we don’t like the Cougars’ chances. Sorry.

Henderson over Daviess;

Franklin-Simpson over Russell County; Play time is over for the classification’s, back-to-back, football state Champions. If they are to make noise this year, better start right now.

Ryle over Dixie Heights;

Fairdale over Iroquois;

McLean over Hancock; Battling it out for who gets to be killed by Owensboro Catholic in the 2nd round.

Johnson Central over Letcher County Central; Eagles roll in this one, won’t be close.

Holy Cross over Fort Knox;

Franklin County over Waggener;

Scott County over MoCo;

Beechwood over Holy Cross (Covington); Beechwood has really played a tough schedule, let’s see if that works for them.

Bardstown over LaRue;j

North Bullitt over J-Town;

Tates Creek over Henry Clay;

Paul Laurence Dunbar over Lafayette;

Simon Kenton over Campbell County;

Highlands over Conner;

Rockcastle over Estill; Rockcastle has over performed this year. Estill is not a bad ball club either. We believe the Rock wins it but not too far fetched for Estill to steal away a first round game either.

Dupont Manual over PRP;

Williamsburg over Harlan; There is a team in Harlan County which could win this matchup with Williamsburg. It isn’t this one however.

Central Hardin over Meade; Meade County could upset Central Hardin. Sure, one wouldn’t expect it but how many of you saw Meade beating DeSales in week 11? Nope, we didn’t see that coming either.

Frederick Douglass over Great Crossing; Could Great Crossing win this game…not in a trillion years.

Whitley County over North Laurel;

Bishop Brossart over Paris;

Fern Creek over Bullitt East;

Pike County Central over Lawrence County; Pike County Central took it on the chin in weeks 10 and 11, losing to Belfry 55-14 then to Breathitt County the following week 56-22. The thing is the Hawks were in both games until the second half. PCC is a really good team. Lawrence County…not so good.

Corbin over Knox Central;

Paducah Tilghman over Webster County;

Madison Southern over Woodford County;

Holmes over Harrison;

John Hardin over Spencer; Mild upset here.

Wayne County over Lincoln County;

Taylor County over Casey County;

Doss over Bullitt Central;

Harlan County over Clay County; This is the Harlan team which could beat Williamsburg we above mentioned. They can beat Clay County too. They will show you that Friday night.

Ludlow over Bellevue;

Mayfield over Fort Campbell; Fort Campbell better hope Joe Morris doesn’t hang “a hundo” on them. That would be grossly unpatriotic.

Ashland-Blazer over Greenup County;

Ballard over Eastern; Ballard can beat any team in Kentucky or lose to any team in Kentucky. Never know which team is getting off its bus.

Lexington Christian over Washington County;

KCD over Berea;

Russell over East Carter;

George Rogers Clark over Madison Central;

DeSales over Western Hills; Surprised by the Meade County stink-bomb they dropped last week. Won’t do that in the first-round we wouldn’t suspect.

East Jessamine over Collins;

Pulaski County over North Laurel;

Raceland over Betsy Lane; Raceland ain’t losing no game to no high school with a girl’s name. Just saying…

Trinity over Marshall County; Another game where Marshall County will be doing well to not get a hundred points scored on them.

Lloyd Memorial over Newport; This one could go either way.

Somerset over Danville; Danville is not used to getting kicked around football fields. We can remember a time not too long ago that would have never happened. Look for the Admirals to make a game of it before succumbing to the much more talented Briar Jumpers.

E-Town over Thomas Nelson;

Pineville over Lynn Camp;

Central over Shelby County; Looking for a .500 team which could go on a late run and win a Kentucky Football Championship? Here’s one, and they are accustomed to making deep playoff runs too, winning the Class 3A State Championship just last year.

Edmonson County over Green County;

Lexington Catholic over Bourbon; David Jones managed 4 wins with a roster I didn’t think would win any. As he gets his kind of players developed they will get better and better. Jump on them now, they won’t be very fun to play in the near future.

Pulaski County over Southwestern;

Bell County over Garrard;

Hazard over Phelps; Not all 5-5’s are equally created. This will be a blow-out.

Campbellsville over Bethlehem; One of Kentucky’s best QBs in Aaron Hash (2021) is the difference here.

Christian Academy-Louisville over Mercer Co.; Everything in our gut tells us there is no way CAL beats Mercer County Friday night. Surely CAL isn’t going to follow up a terrible regular season with an exit in the KHSAA’s first round on the heals of winning it all its last year in Class 2A? Maybe the biggest upset in round-1. Call us crazy, but we believe the Centurions live to see another week.

Eminence over Frankfort;

Middlesboro over Leslie County; This game was a one-point, overtime win for Middlesboro when the two played in Leslie County. Leslie has had a few injuries since then and aren’t playing the same caliber of football as earlier in the season. We think Middlesboro by two or more TDs.

North Hardin over Barren County;

Male over Southern;

Shelby County over Martin County;

Fulton County over Russellville; Remember when the Russellville Panthers were the “bullies on the block” in the western end of the 1A classification? Fulton County has never been that, but they are too good in the backfield to lose here.

Carroll County over Owen County;

Fleming County over Pendleton County;

Nicholas over Bracken;

Owensboro over Muhlenberg Co.; With Austin Gough back and healthy, it may be a while before the Red Devils are punched out of this one.

Boyle County over Anderson; Anderson County has the talent to win anytime, anywhere, outside of Boyle County, whom they just can’t beat. Darion Dearinger at DE is worth the price of admission and will give the Boyle line fits all night. At last, it won’t be enough.

Bowling Green over Christian County; Someone once said Christian County had such a tough schedule it could go 0-10 and still be a very good football team. Hate to tell the idiot who said that but there are no such things as good teams that are 0-10. Same is true of 0-11.

Mason County over Powell;

South Oldham over Atherton; We keep sleeping on South and they keep beating the almighty heck out of folks.

Moore over Valley;

Owensboro Catholic over Todd County; Surprised Catholic lost too Apollo. Yeah, Apollo is 6A but District 1 is not the same as being a 6A team districted elsewhere. Truth hurts. Apollo is not a good team and they didn’t even struggle with Catholic which makes us wonder if they have some important players injured. Todd could win, but we would still be surprised if they did.

Oldham Station over Bryan Station;

St. Xavier over Butler;

Graves County over Grayson County;

West Carter over Bath County;

Caldwell over Murray; Before Murray’s QB got hurt and lost for the year, we may have picked this one differently. Caldwell is playing for the memory of a beloved coach who died preseason and they have played very well all season. How far will it carry the Tigers from Princeton. We believe at least one more week.

Paintsville over Fairview;

Newport Central Catholic over Dayton.
