Celebrating the type Revolutionary Performance which has made us the fastest growing bank in the Kentucky financial service's market

’24 two-way contributors rare in 6A

You don’t see many 6A ball players pulling duty on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football at Kentucky’s largest competitive classification of competition (6A). You really rarely see it on a roster which was 11-3 in ’22 and a semifinalist which also owned wins against the likes of Male and Trinity. Then again, Journey Wyche is no ordinary high school football player as you are shortly to discover.

There is no better time than the present to anoint another Independence Bank, Revolutionary Player of the Week. Independence Bank is proud to sponsor a weekly article highlighting players in the areas where Independence Bank flourishes who embody the same type of revolutionary service to their respective football teams which has made Independence Bank unique and special in the banking industry.

Today we honor a guy many, around the commonwealth, believe to be among the premier Iron Man football players in the entire commonwealth of Kentucky, partly because he is doing it at the Louisville 6A level. This ’24, two-way prospect has shown himself to be one of the more versatile and well-rounded athletes in the Derby City possessing among the more enviable skill-sets. Today we feature Journey Wyche, from Louisville, Kentucky’s Ballard High.

This is a guy who is listed by most publications as a RB/ATH. Where he will fit into the college competitive matrix is yet to be fully determined. That he will fit into the college competitive matrix seems well resolved.

Journey being the given name of Mr. Wyche seems altogether appropriate considering the “journey” Wyche traveled over an epic junior season. Wyche gained close to 1,000-yards rushing (938), carried the football 113-times, averaged 8.3-yards per rushing attempt, scored 11-rushing TD’s or a TD every 10.3 or so carries.

Wyche caught 7-passes in a run-heavy attack, gained 164-yards in receptions, and had a TD-receiving. Wyche led the team in scoring with 78-points ((11-rushing TD’s, 1-TD receiving, 1-“Pick-six”).

Wyche scored on both offense and defense and heavily contributed to both units in ’22

If that was the sum-total of the contributions Wyche made to the Bruins in ’22, it is still enough to be honored herein. However, we have yet to discuss his defensive contributions.

On defense, Wyche contributed 27-tackles, a 52-yard “Pick-six,” 1-FF, and 1-FR. We call that making the most of one’s opportunities.

Wyche is listed at 5’11,” and tips the scales at roughly 190-pounds. Wyche is both a football star and a sprinter on the HS Track & Field team. One of his most impressive statistics is the 3.5 GPA he carries in the class room.

When we look at the schools recruiting him, we see many mid-major FBS to FCS level, D-1’s lurking. We predict the service academies and Ivy to “Near-Ivy’s” will do what they can to equally get involved.

Until then, there is the journey of this senior campaign forthcoming. One this is for sure, Wyche has been well Christened for the path.

Wyche’s play in ’22 and that which is forthcoming in ’23 easily earns this magnificent ’24 prospect this week’s recognition from the fastest growing bank in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, our friends at Independence Bank.
