How about the play of RB, Eric Herring, Jr. so far in the young 2018 football season? Herring was one of the Red Devils’s top rushers in 2017 and has come out on fire. Friday night, Herring, a Class of 2019 prospect who doubles at corner, gained 144 yards from scrimmage and scored a TD on the ground. Herring got a lot of help from QB, Cooper Richards, who contributed 9 completions among his 11 attempts for 123 yards of effective passing production and a TD through the air. It would appear that any opponents hoping the Red Devils may have been diminished, to any degree, by the loss of last year’s seniors will be sorely disappointed in 2018. It looks like both Herring and Richards have the Red Devils back in the title chase in its division and hitting on all cylinders.

Jo Byrns is an elite team, in its classification, year after year. Early returns suggest this year will be no different. After going 9-2 a year ago, Jo Byrns has opened 2018 with wins over Cascade High School in Wartrace, TN and then coming home to beat Monterey this past Friday night. Hey, that Moneterey win is nothing at which to sneeze as Jo Byrns  counted them among its two losses last year, losing to them 7-0 at their place. The Red Devils are looking particularly devilish this year, to date, as they brace themselves for a visit from East Robertson. When East Robertson rolls into town, they may find themselves facing one Devil of an ambush from Herring and his teammates.

Congratulations to Eric Herring, Jr. for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
