’25 Edge/LB/TE is a virtual ‘Mr. Versatility’
These Veltkamps can flat play football. Caden Veltkamp showed everyone what he was about in the Hilltoppers’ bowl game this past season. Colten Veltkamp has been showing very similar stuff on Friday Nights for his South Warren Spartans (5A, District 2). Veltkamp is 6’2,” weighs 205-pounds and plays anywhere from Edge/LB on defense to TE on offense. Hard to say where he forecasts in college, his numbers are very good on both sides of the ball. Perhaps his 3.5-GPA is the best statistical. This is one of the ’25 class’s more recruitable prospects.

Bowling Green, KY: There is no better time than the present to anoint another Independence Bank Player of the Week. Independence Bank is proud to sponsor a weekly article highlighting players in the areas where Independence Bank flourishes who embody the same type of revolutionary service to their respective football teams which has made Independence Bank unique and special in the banking industry.
Independence Bank has a goal of achieving everyday excellence, and this week we are focusing on a player whose performance exceeded expectations through the regular season and who will be vitally important to the Spartan’s playoff chances as we continue toward the 2024 upcoming season. Today, we are focusing on Class of 2025, Edge/LB/TE, from Bowling Green’s South Warren High School, Colton Veltkamp.
Veltkamp’s South Warren High is located just down the road from today’s featured branch, the one located on “Williamsburg Square,” 877 Fairview Avenue; Bowling Green, KY. Get on by that branch today and discover what makes our people, products, and services revolutionary in the Kentucky financial industry.
In keeping with this offseason’s theme of versatility; today, we give you one of the more versatile performers in all of the KHSAA. Today, we feature Colton Veltkamp, a player who has thrived on both offense and defense in spite of competing for a program in Kentucky’s second largest classification.
Veltkamp was a junior in 2023. Veltkamp contrived 71-tackles to lead his team in 12-games. Veltkamp registered 20-TFLs and 7-QB sacks.
Veltkamp had quite the season on offense at TE. He caught 25-balls, for 311-yards receiving with 8-TDs. Solid numbers for a TE, particularly where he had a definitive role in the run game as the OL’s “Sixth Member.”
South Warren is among the better coached and disciplined units to toil between the white lines anywhere within the commonwealth. It is the reason why every year the Spartans are in the thick of the championship race at its classification.
Lat year was no different for South Warren. The team was 9-3, but one loss to duPont Manual (6A) was by three points and the other loss in the regular season was to 5A champion, Bowling Green Senior High, by a single score (35-29).
The Purples hit the Spartans with the old, “hook and ladder” play at the very end to emerge victorious during the regular season. We had actually picked South Warren to win the pivotal matchup. Oh well, sometimes one has to go to the bag of tricks to get the desired outcome.
Veltkamp has already been offered by the homesteading “Hilltoppers (FBS, Division 1).” There will be plenty of other offers forthcoming this summer as Colton braces for a big senior season.
We believe Veltkamp will be in the thick of several post-season distinctions. We believe he will be in the “Mr. Football” race and his being touted as a potential Gatorade POY recipient doesn’t seem, at all, far-fetched.
Congratulations to Colton Veltkamp for his Revolutionary Play over the course of the ’23 season which earned him this week’s recognition from the fastest growing bank in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, your friends at Independence Bank.
This is Friday Night Fletch, reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron and reminding you that WE’RE JUST CALLING IT LIKE WE SEE IT!
