Class of 2020’s Andrew Long, (@drew_long16) the pride of both the Long family and LCA

Even the Longs who can’t claim blood relation are trying to claim this one!

We called Class of 2021’s premier offensive center/nose-guard, Breathitt County’s William Long, who lives a mere hour or so from Lexington to inquire as to whether he was related to Andrew Long. He asked us, You mean the Drew Long who is the big, stud linebacker at LCA? We told him yes. William Long then said, Can I say yes even if I really don’t know it to be a fact?

Andrew, a.k.a. Drew Long, has that effect on lots of folks. The Class of 2020 LB is the pride of the LCA defensive second-level. Long is the pride of the Lexington Christian Academy. Heck, Drew is the pride of the Long family, even those Longs who just might be relate to him.

Why not? On a team thought to have the best collection of 2022 prospects anywhere in Kentucky on one team, here’s a senior doing what you want the upperclassmen to do…lead. Long led LCA in 2018 with 104 tackles. Long led LCA with 17 TFLs. Long led LCA with 11 QB sacks. Long led LCA with 4 forced fumbles. Long led LCA with 3 fumble recoveries.

Andrew Long has the classic stature one would want out of a LB too. Long is 6-2 and is listed as weighing 205-pounds. KPGFootball is calling BS on the 205. We would put Long’s weight as being closer to 215-220 than it is to 205-pounds.

We see a lot of high school football players. We are called on to estimate height and weight so often we could do it as a sideline at the county fair. This kid is too thick to only weigh 205-pounds at 6-2, and we buy the 6-2 part.

Andrew Long is just another example, sadly, of a kid flying under the radar. With his nose for the ball, closing speed, ability to come up in the run game and still drop back in coverage, and all the other intangibles it takes to anchor a second level at the next level, Long would be getting recruited out the ying-yang if he lived in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, or Tennessee.

If you are a school looking for linebacker play and you need a Division I caliber LB for your collegiate second level, may we suggest you get yourself to Lexington, Kentucky and watch this kid play. Heck, here’s his highlights, we’ll make it easy for you.

Check out the Pride of the Long family, the Pride of the LCA family, the Pride of Lexington, Kentucky high school football. We think you’ll be wanting to claim him as quickly as Breathitt County’s William Long was willing too.
