What a job Chase Flaherty did filling in at RB for the newly crowned 2A Kentucky Champions, Beechwood, after it lost its “Mr. Football” candidate Mitchell Berger. Almost makes you think the Tigers are elite across the offensive front, which is the case by the way. Still, the championship game came down to Mayfield’s extra-point attempt sailing wide of a college goal post which would have been good had the kicker been kicking toward a high school goal post. Kade Elam has killed it all year for his undefeated Corbin Redounds. Coming into the Championship in 4A, they have been the team discounted and overlooked all year, in spite of going 14-0 and having the highest RPI in the 4A classification. We are approaching round four (4) in the KHSAA playoffs. All of these teams left standing are very good. There are exactly no bad apples left in the barrel. It will be the “little things” which differentiate between winning and losing at this point. “Mighty Mayfield” has themselves the home field and a kicker in Lincoln Suiter who has before come through for the Cardinals in a “big game,” with the game on the line. If called upon, Friday night, will he come through once more? We shall see, but the Cardinals are confident. Enjoy the feature. HB.
