Slow Motion Replay: Remembering Garnis Martin of the Bardstown High School Tigers @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @KyHighFootball, @BardstownFootb1

February 2, 2025 Fletcher Long 1

Phillip Haywood rewrote the Kentucky wins standard for High School coaching. Bardstown’s Garnis Martin was the first coach to 250-wins, then Walter Brugh surpassed the “Martin standard” at Paintsville in 1993. Joe Jaggers surpassed Brugh in 1997 then Schneider took over in 2005 and Dudley Hilton tied Schneider in 2010. The next year Phillip Haywood took over the top post and so on and so forth. Enjoy this ride on the “Way Back” machine.

There are some really outstanding freshmen football players who got a ton of reps during the ’24 season. There was even a ’28 kid who got 13-games of run behind the best OL unit in Kentucky at any classification. LCA’s Matthew Montgomery is a 6’0,” 230-pound guy with a 275-pound bench, a 405-pound squat, and a penchant for flattening defenders unfortunate enough to get in his pulling trajectory on traps and pulls. Is this guy the next Anthony Johns? Could be! Enjoy the article.

They call him “Melo.” It is a reference to Carmelo Anthony and is an indication of just how good this ’29 can be in two, not just one, sports. Jaden “Melo” White has committed to play his high school ball at the Central Storm and, in so doing, provides an explosive, big-frame athlete who can play on the edge or in the middle of the defenses second level. Enjoy the feature.

Jeremiah Austin, from Belfry High, is the @bigassfans Kentucky Comfort Creator @BelfryFootball1, @wolford_bo, @_MLFootball, @minguabeefjerky, @KyHighFootball

JJ Austin is a workhorse for one of Kentucky’s premier programs. He leads the team in rushing, and rushing the football is what the Pirates do best. JJ is also more than a token defender. What will he do in ’25, as a senior? One might say he is “in the lead” to represent the “Big Ass Fans” Small School All-State Football Offense at FB/LB in 2025. It is still early. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it cool out there Kentucky!

Xzavion Brown from Frankfort is wrestling with important decisions @statejournal, @FCFlyerFootball, @KFCA_Coach, @CoachPerkins3, @LukeToothaker13, @bigassfans, @minguabeefjerky, @KyHighFootball

Xzavion Brown is among the more dynamic and explosive interior defensive linemen in the commonwealth of Kentucky. You talk about a guy who can penetrate and be disruptive as well as hold a gap or two, this is your man. His junior statistics bear out that he has a penchant for making big plays which put offenses behind the down and distance markers. Enjoy this look at this very fine football player.
