Today we will look at the 2A classification and particularly the two teams (LCA and Beechwood) we expect to principally vie for the title and why. There are good teams interspaced throughout the classification but the two we have focused on here have all the intangibles, particularly tradition, roster talent, and coaching. Today we break down the 5A classification. Lots of people are going to pick Owensboro (Senior) and with good reason. They won it a year ago and, but for the loss of Evan Hampton, have a ton of talent returning. Of course, losing “Mr. Football” is kind of a big loss. We like Scott County. The Cardinals look to us to have it all. They have a lot of skills coming back, are very strong in the run game, and have one of the better athletes across the board playing in the KHSAA game today. They also have an amazing coaching staff loaded up with Hall of Fame types. Woodford County, Atherton, and Bowling Green will be heard from too and Pulaski and South Laurel better be watched. We generally go back and republish some articles during the Dead Period. This is the last day of Dead Period and it is full throttle to the opener from here until opening weekend. We are excited about what has been a thrilling offseason. We have accomplished quite a lot this offseason not the least of which has been our publishing the most decorated and distributed book on the topic of Kentucky High School football in Kentucky history. We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. The ‘Scholfield Leg Rocket’ was simply among the best PK’ing football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game at his level of play and particularly on the western end of KY. Scholfield came on our radar with his play over the course of his career at McCracken County during Coach Marc Clark’s time at the helm of the Mustang’s ship. Since then, Scholfield has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Scholfield only improved over his high school career, and had a nice college career to boot. Scholfield was the kind of kid coaches wanted to coach and, in the end, that may have been the finest compliment which could have been paid him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.
